    Bali December/Jan Thoughts?

Not sure what you're trying to ask? Thread title asks about Bali, but in your post you're talking about Raja Ampat, Lembeh and Komodo. So your wife is super attached to your baby and doesn't want to hire someone to look after it while you're in the water? Well pretty sure the only way that's...

Does nitrox make you feel good?

Wow! A 16 year-old thread revival! How does one even find such a thread to revive? Go-go gadget search!

Do you think this is a qualified CESA?

No need to remove reg. As along ad you can see exhalation bubbles the whole way you'll know there aren't any breaths being taken. I'd say this is not only a fail, but downright dangerous for this diver to repeat at depth.

Question A day of diving in Tahiti or Moorea

I haven't been there recently - spent a few days in Moorea back in 2007. It was on the way back to Australia after 6 weeks backpacking around South America, so was not in any way a diving holiday. I hired gear to do a double boat dive on one day. Was not blown away by the diving, and felt like...

    Newbie with photo editing question

Gimp is great, but IMO has a much steeper learning curve than other photo editing software. I have spent much time over the past two decades seeking out free and cheap alternatives, but ultimately the time and effort I spend trying to find cheaper software well outweighs the cost of good...

Here's a version with a bit more pop. A bit too much for my liking, but some may prefer it

    Newbie with photo editing question

Here's a quick go at it using white balance adjustment then some tweaking on temp/tint then curves adjustment. If I'm taking photos without flash, my preference is to not use any filter at all, and adjust afterwards. Using a filter may give you nicer colour straight out of the camera, but it...

    Newbie with photo editing question

For photos, pretty much every piece of photo editing software out there will allow you to adjust white balance pretty easily. Or adjust temp and tint to your liking. Video is a little more tricky - I haven't used it too much, but the GoPro Quik app has quite a lot of smarts, it may be able to...

question to Seaquest Balance BCD users, please

I have an ancient Balance (with velco weight pockets, not buckles) and though I don't use it a great deal anymore, I do use it on OW and AOW courses and the occasional pleasure dive. I don't use it in warm water, just with 7mm wetsuit and sometimes a drysuit. What you're describing is pretty...

Feedback on Mares Puck "Deco" Dive - Did It Malfunction or Did I

Continuing on from @Rob9876's post, what I suspect happened is that your dive computer kicked into deco mode, so it would have been telling you to do a deco stop, rather than a safety stop. Read the manual, and see how that looks different. It is quite likely that you were expecting to see a SS...

Feedback on Mares Puck "Deco" Dive - Did It Malfunction or Did I

What is the conservatism setting on your computer? If you download your dives into Subsurface, you can play with the algorithm settings to see what it reckons your deco profile should look like. I entered your two dives with an approximation of your profiles, and depending on the chosen...

    Quick release on second stage

Pretty sure OP was referring to a simulated free flow drill, and not implying an actual free flow. It's an extremely rare occurence, especially in rec diving, and certainly not a reason to use a quick connect. The exercise is more about showing that when things go wrong, there is more often...

    Double tank SPG question

A plug with an o-ring is just that. A transmitter and SPG require that o-ring, plus a hose (with connections on each end) plus a spool. I've never seen a HP hose fail at the first stage connection. I've often seen HP spools fail.

Info Why are tables not taught in OW classes anymore?

I whole-heartedly agree with @tursiops view the practical application of tables in a real world diving scenario. However I disagree that with the view that there is no value in teaching tables in OW. PADI course material still includes tables (it also still refers to the eRDP, but that's a...

    Acute sarcoidosis

Hi @Mr.Ray I found myself in a similar position about five years ago (Sarcoidosis and diving) Your post prompted me to dig up that thread, and I realised I never followed up on it - the outcome is that I'm back diving again and enjoying it as much as ever. To recap on my thread, my symptoms...

    P-Valve Questions

You don't need to add air to help it flow through the system, but if my suit is sitting too snug I'll sometimes have to add some air to relieve bladder pressure to start the flow. So for my benefit, not the valve or tube :)

    Another pee valve question

If it's a balanced p-valve (pretty sure it is), just leave it open and let it flow. Horizontal, vertical, upside down, whatever takes your fancy.

    Dive with isolator mostly closed?

It is not unusual for people to turn a thread (valve, tap, nut, bolt) the wrong way when trying to do it from an unfamiliar angle. Such as twisted your arm in a weird way to get to a hard-to-get-to nut, or reaching behind your head to open (err.. close.. err.. hang on..) your isolater. FWIW I...

    Dive with isolator mostly closed?

You do realise that's old school thinking for ancient valves, which is not a concern with any equipment from this century?
