Help for newly certified father/son on equipment to buy for infrequent diving

Disagree. Absolutely a mask, and probably fins. For a 13yo boy diving 2-3 times a year, he'll only get 1 dive trip out of a wetsuit before he grows out of it. Dive computer is a nice-to-have, but most decent dive ops will provide a console with integrated computer. Sure, you don't get to...

Scubapro S109 BA conversion not going well

Size doesn't matter, and the shape of the head doesn't matter. The two main definitions for calling something a screw vs a bolt are: 1. If it is intended to be mated with a prethreaded receptor (like a nut, or other threaded part) it's a bolt. If it is intended to create a thread (like into...

Scubapro S109 BA conversion not going well

@happy-diver I see you have done due diligence on my background checks before responding. You are to be commended! My fingers have done walking and my mouth has done talking, and certainly whether a fastener is called a bolt or a screw is the cause of almost as much debate as whether the toilet...

Inquiry on Backplate and Wing for Warm Water Dives

Sounds like you should be looking at back-inflate BC options, not a backplate and wing. If the features that you are looking for come standard in a normal BC, why do you want a bp/w?

Ratio Dive Computers Announces New iX3M 2!! Our Best Dive Computer yet!

Ratio have their own transmitters which are each programmed onto one of 30 channels, either automatically during a startup programming sequence, or using their Toolbox application on PC via USB cable. The transmitters can also be programmed with auto or manually set gain values - although I'm...

Ratio Dive Computers Announces New iX3M 2!! Our Best Dive Computer yet!

Send your graphs to Ratio support. They are very receptive to feedback, and if everyone who is seeing this issue reports it, it will give them a very real picture of the scale of this issue. I also see this, but not to nearly the same extent as your example. It's not actually losing comms at...

    Question Replacement for Seaquest Balance

Yes, it is spendy, and the only reason I own one is because of a darn good deal on FB marketplace. Otherwise I'd still be rocking my Balance

    Question Replacement for Seaquest Balance

Nope, never dumped a weight pocket. The velco is over 20 years old now, and although not as strong as it used to be still has no issue holding the weight pockets in.

    Question Replacement for Seaquest Balance

I have a SeaQuest Balance which I've had for I have no idea how many years! It's one of the earlier models with velcro weight pocket release, no plastic clips at all. I've recently got hold of a Scubapro Hydros Pro and is IMO a pretty natural evolution from the Balance. I use backplate and wing...

    logbook app

Can't speak for the Applenl ecosystem, but PC and Android, Subsurface all the way. There are a couple of others that looks a bit more modern, and have more (arguably low value) features, but none that really compare with, IMO, the right set of features that make it just as applicable to a...

What is the definition of “Muck Diving”?

You're obviously diving in the wrong places in Indonesia. I did a liveaboard in Komodo only a month ago and muck diving around Sanyeang volcano was some of the most enjoyable diving I've done. Even those without cameras raved about those dives - being able to just cruise around at a leisurely...

Scubapro S109 BA conversion not going well

He is correct. The difference between a screw and a bolt is about its thread and only its thread. If the fastener's thread is designed to make its own thread when tightened, it is a screw. If the fastener's thread is designed to be inserted into a pre-threaded mating fastener, it is a bolt.

Question Hydros Pro for tech diving

If you're thinking of doing it in the next couple of days, I imagine you already have a shop / instructor in mind that has a course about to start. You would be best serviced talking directly to them rather than asking random internet experts. When you say "Tech40", I assume you're referring to...

    Gear longevity

Most gear that you buy today will outlive you. My "new" regulators are 15 years old. Im still using some that are 30 years old, can still be serviced and still perform well. Others on this board still use regs that are even older. My drysuit is 17 years old and still going strong. BC is most...

    Komodo: Land-based or Liveaboard? (Mermaid 1 ?)

I just got back from Bali-Komodo-Bali aboard Mermaid II two weeks ago. It was 7 nights, 8 days including embarking / disembarking days, so 20 dives over 6 days. 11 of those dives were in and around Komodo, including 2 at Manta Alley. One of those manta alley dives was the only one that reef...

Suggestion Require Two-factor authentication for Classified privileges

No, it means that I've been in the IT game for 3 decades, in large enterprises, consulting and advising large enterprises on application, integration, data, and security strategy for much of that. I do not call myself an info sec expert, but I am quite confident that I qualify more than most...

Suggestion Require Two-factor authentication for Classified privileges

No, I don't work *in* infosec, but I work very closely with them in cloud computing and data platforms, and work with clients that have a lot more regulatory and commercial sensitivity constraints than scubaboard. Did you actually read my response, or just see familiar words and try to pick it...

Suggestion Require Two-factor authentication for Classified privileges

Like pretty much every democratic decision in this world these days, not everyone's opinion should be taken at equal value. I have no doubt that most people that have responded in this thread so far have absolutely no actual idea what they're talking about when it comes to cybersecurity, other...
