Hey All,
I loaned a TG-6 from a friend with the 60m housing and have been shooting 4K video with it for some time. I found however, the battery runs out far too fast on video, and the 5 minute 4K record limit is very annoying since I sometimes leave it recording and swim to the front of the...
Interesting point, it hadn't occurred to me that Garmin's "Exiting N2 Loading" and Shearwater's "End Surface GF" might be two different things entirely. I'd assumed they were the same thing since the Surface GF doesn't seem to show anywhere in the Garmin dive app (dive log), only Exiting N2 loading.
Note that SurfGF on the Garmin is not calculated in the same way as Shearwater. I dive both a Descent G1 and Shearwater Teric.
At the end of an example dive, the Teric showed a surface GF of 16%, whilst the G1 showed 42%. Identical GF and settings on both computers. When I checked the dive...
I'm currently transitioning into side mount (using wetsuit, warm water here) and at the stage of sourcing equipment. Currently I run a recreational single AL80 back mount system with XTX200 (primary donate) setup.
For the side mount BCD I'll be using the XDEEP Stealth 2.0 TEC (since I'll be...
I'm not particularly an expert with electronics but it crossed my mind about using a small relay with delay effect. So rather than using the Piezo to directly close the switch circuit, the piezo would be used to activate the relay, which in turn could be set to say 300-500ms to hold closed...
The newer variant appears to have the same crappy (eventually leaking) switches as previous, however the battery compartment looks like a huge improvement over the previous model. Looks like it might even have the cathode as part of the battery compartment too, meaning the outer case is not used...
Check my previous posts on here, I've been looking around for a "ready-to-go" magnetic switch but cannot find one. Almost like each manufacturer is using a custom design. The ones you link to here look like they might be magnetic, judging by the height of the switch and the price. They also have...
That's not the SUPE V6K you have there. It's one of the Chinese lights though I can't see exactly which from the photo. Also, the aluminium body of your light looks slightly different to the ones we normally see posted on here, though the switches look the same. For the switches I used a pair of...
Now that I have a working BB14-7s again I thought I would share my very non-scientific lumens test. I compared to a SUPE (scubalamp) V6K, assume to be version two. The spec sheet says that the V6k is 12,000 lumens on max power and 6,000 lumens on medium. It only has the two settings for the...
I previously used the Peregrine myself (it was my first dive computer) and switched to the Teric a few months ago for want of a compass amongst other features. Strangely you can fit more info onto the Teric screen due to the higher resolution, though I do miss the cool look of the larger...
Size comparison between the Garmin Descent G1 & Shearwater Teric. On a side note I will say that the Teric is hands down a way better dive computer if you only focus on the dive functionality. If however you just use your dive computer to monitor depth and NDL, then the G1 is fine. This isn't a...
Rather than start a new topic I thought I'd ask in here, since there are a few owners:
Does the descent support adaptive safety stops like the Shearwaters do? That is, 3 mins by default but ups it to 5 mins if you go deeper than 30m or within a couple of minutes of NDL. My friend has a MK2s and...
Chiming in as I looked into this a lot:
I went out of my way to buy a new old style shearwater transmitter recently. The new swift (with it's higher price tag) just didn't seem worth it to me. As I understand, the LED status indicator shows when it's transmitting, and not battery status, but...
I just checked my dive log and it was 1hr 16 mins, of which I had the torch on for the majority of the time but on the lowest power setting. The switch was still lighting blue but I noticed towards the end of the dive if I switched the torch off and back on but leaving it on the highest power...
Good find, however the circuit is 5v and that switch is 12v. Any bigger than 16mm and the switches would hit each other when they protrude through the inside of the housing, due to the angles they sit at.
I can find plenty of magnetic switch contacts out there, fabricating the button that moves...
I found an issue (or two) with using the Piezo switches, or at least with the ones I have available. The pulse width on them only appears to be very short, almost not enough for the torch circuit to detect. I find I have to press mine really hard, sometimes several times for them to generate a...
