    Shearwater Perdix AI

Wow. Did you really find it necessary to post three times in less than an hour to say the same thing? No one laughed the first time; doesn't mean you have to try again...

Is the Aqualung Legend LX Supreme the best reg on the market, for me

One wonders when an instructor comes to a forum asking what regulator they should buy, what that instructor is going to say when students come asking what regulators they should buy. Especially with some of the basic questions being asked here This is stuff instructors should have experience...

    ppO2, FO2, and Washout

ppO2 (in these terms) is the partial pressure of oxygen in the gas you are breathing at a given ambient pressure (depth). So if you are breathing 100% O2 on the surface, your ppO2 is 1ATA. 10 meters, 2ATA etc etc. To the OPs question - deco efficiency is essentially governed by the gradient...

    New dry suit - repaired

A brand new product shouldn't have faults, and you shouldn't have to put up with a brand new product with a clear repair - that's called refurbished. Either demand a new suit, or some of your money back.

Melbourne woman killed on Mozambique diving tour

Doing a little research online, and seems this wasn't a diving accident. More of a 'central africa is still a very dangerous place to be' kind of thing :( Sad.

    Shearwater Perdix

Had my first dives with my new Perdix yesterday. Love it. Got shown a nice way to do the buckles up solo also. Rig them so the female clips are towards you (with the elastic going away from you and around the arm) and slide them so the female clips are close to the computer body. Place the...

Mares Avanti Quattro + steel spring strap replacement - current options (Europe)

These kind of straps will work : https://www.amazon.co.uk/Northern-Diver-Spring-Fin-Straps/dp/B006TZGQ1W But, you will need to carefully cut off a small notch of plastic that protrudes on the bottom of the fin post. Specifically this part:

Drysuit or BC for boyancy control?

Why does the discussion have to descend into which agency says what? The question was 'why are there two schools of thought'. There clearly are two schools of thought, and what agency a or b teaches doesn't really matter. So why do some people prefer to use the suit for squeeze only, and...

    Carry-On Backplate-Backpack?

A friend of mine has just flown from the UK to Egypt and back with a back plate in his backpack. No problems. Same guy flying out of South Africa got stopped once as the security guy thought the back plate was a bullet proof vest. Forced him to check the back plate into the hold, delaying the...

Blue O Two: Simply The Worse!

I've just come back from a trip to the Red Sea with Blue O2, and I thought they were an absolutely fabulous company. Every step of the journey, at air ports and bus stops, there was always a Blue O2 rep helping you find the right way. The boat was nice and clean, and the diving was spot on...

    Dive freedom == no wetsuit?

Just finished up a week liveaboard on the red sea. Easy boardies and a rashy, 4 days a day, including night dives.

    Dive Cylinder Explodes - Sydney

Seems we're even more lenient in the UK, with a hydro every 5 years and a vis every 2.5 years. Quite surprised how much variation there is in this...

    Hose Routing Decision

No, you seemed to suggest that it wasn't a problem clipping your long hose reg off as you could easily pull it to your face if you needed to in an emergency. Your long hose needs to go to your buddies face in an emergency, not yours.

Are BOW and AOW classes really changing that much

Atmosphere pressures etc were definitely covered in my course. And the final exam was closed book, and I'm pretty sure it was ~100 questions. There was also a second exam on dive planning using the eRDP.

Are BOW and AOW classes really changing that much

In my, fairly recent, experience of certifying with PADI, all of those topics that you mention your friend didn't know about were covered fairly well. I'd suggest this is either a case of a poor instructor, or a poor student. Its probably also worth mentioning how far through the course he is...

    Suunto Vyper Battery Life

I find the buttons on my Vyper fairly difficult to press normally to be honest. You seem to have to press them a lot harder than you would expect, and there isn't much tactile feedback to let you know that you've actually pressed it.
