Valve drill gone wrong...and my regulator died, too

Glad you made it out OK, and sounds like you gave your instructor a bit of work to do too! :) What, specifically, is the purpose of breathing down a reg after shutting it down in a drill? It just seems an invitation to flood the reg to me?

Who is the manufacturer? Looks like an Otter?

    Port Eynon Gower

Unfortunately you're right, even air fills aren't easy to come by. Your closest reliable/safe source is probably Haven Diving Services in Milford Haven. Short of that there's Bristol Channel Diving in Cardiff, or NDAC in Chepstow.

Drysuit YKK Proseal BDM zipper tiny leak - quick fix

I had the exact failure mode on a zip of mine, and made the same repair. Worked for a little while, but like you I was so paranoid of tearing it again that I got the zip replaced.

    Port Eynon Gower

I've been out around the Gower on a boat a few times this year, and so far visibility has been almost zero. Port Eynon is a little further along and towards the tip, so maybe it'll be a little better. I've never dived off the beach there though sorry.

    DCS incident after wreckdive

Or maybe he stopped too deep. You're arguing with no reference, and it makes no sense :rofl3:

    SMB Inflation Method of Choice

You forgot to caveat all that with 'In the conditions I dive and the equipment I use'. Personally, I'd prefer to practice until I can use equipment best suited to my environment. A 3.3ft sausage would be next to useless as a marker buoy in UK waters. A crack bottle 6ft is my weapon of choice...

    S. Wales and N. England in July

You won't find much of interest in South East Wales, unfortunately, due to the Severn estuary having one of the highest tidal ranges in the world. The resulting high current and poor visibility stops much diving. There are a few local clubs that have ribs, but no/few commercial operators...

Happy to go diving with you once you're certified - based up the road from you in Swansea.

Diver dead at National Diving and Activity Centre - Tidenham, UK

AS Ken mentioned - NDAC doesn't open on Mondays. Strange, but also very sad!

Metal Zipper Leaking at Docking End

I had a zip fail that sounded quite similar to yours. Essentially, the zip material had come away from either side of the little triangular shaped seal at the bottom, depicted in the attached image. Dryzip by w3dge posted Mar 26, 2018 at 1:07 PM

Apalling story. The health care system in the USA never ceases to amaze me.

    Domino Effect

Glad you made it out OK, good job! I'm curious why the apprehension to just ascend under your SMB though, instead of tying it to the wreck. Ascending under a blob is fairly routine practice here. Why did your buddy's bottom mix factor into his decision to do just that?

    Removing tank boots?

I took the boots of my twinset. Couldn't think of a good reason to do so other than it looks cooler :D Its a bit of a pain in the ass most times to be honest.

    Can I dive to 40m (130ft)?

I'd argue that the OP would have more experience if the dives to 30m and 35 DIDN'T go to plan.
