That would be tough for FDM printing, given that flexibility is part of the functionality, combined with the pull it needs to withstand could be pretty strong.
A design more like this style:
…could be oriented across the print bed for decent strength, and used TPU or TPE for some flexibility.
Incidentally, I spent a while looking for an article that I suspect is the one you're remembering ("since removed"). Check this, from the WayBack machine:

I’ll be on Scubaspa Zen in January; @yumbbq: when I happened to look today, there were still (some) cabins in January, so there may be spaces when you want them.
@moose_grunt, @lnjohn : I have one pair of the wedges and one (or two) pairs of the rubber nipple things.
(Found this old thread while looking for a rubber or silicone weight belt.)

See if you can get on a San Lucas boat that’s going out to the corridor that day instead; Chileno, Gavilanes, Whale’s Head…

What has your experience been on actually using digital copies of the "Humann" (New World Publications; fishid.com) books? We're accustomed to carrying 10 to 15 pounds of their books on trips, but that's increasingly unwieldy.

You should have better connection than most; when I (briefly) looked into it, it seemed to be mostly available as a part of marine studies university programs, and had currency requirements that would be tough to meet unless you were a student in a program...
Chiming in with interest in hearing more; thanks. Also curious about taking or extracting the occasional still; how good, how easy to switch modes in-water, etc.
