Wurkkos Dive Light Earlier Birds Testers: Acknowledging Challenges and Looking for Your Input

Like a couple of others have described themselves, I only do a few dive trips each year and don’t blog, so not a good review candidate — but I have a mild flashlight addiction and I’m a sucker for providing feedback that I can pretend might get used. Obviously this is for the diving I do —...

    No medical clearance

Agreed in spirit -- but you're also betting that some lawyer from DAN's underwriter won't be standing there saying "...and this clear evidence that Wheeler925 knowingly lied shows us that they have a disregard for safety that probably led to the accident..."

    No medical clearance

On the WRSTC form I have a one minor “yes” answer for RX eyedrops (remember that any prescription med other than birth control or anti-malarial is a “yes”). Since I see my GP once a year anyway, each year I have him sign off a copy of the generic form and put a copy in my dive kit. Haven’t...

Changed backplate from stainless to Aluminum for travel.

FWIW, I always travel with an aluminium backplate, and keep two pouches on the top tank strap, and wear a weight belt for the rest. The combo and distribution lets me fine-tune the trim, and I've gone back to the belt because I like being able to neutralize the wetsuit independent of the rig.

Opinions on DIVEVOLK for Smartphone Setup

Tangent DiveVolk+iPhone question: Does the iPhone record location information in the photos/videos? My old Nikon W300 has a nice feature where it tags the submerged photos with the last known position. (Tagging a few folks from the thread for attention: @Rick Brant @David Haas @rmorgan...

Eye bolt. McMaster-Carr eyebolts Like… nylock nuts? (McMaster-Carr locknuts) My concern with the eyebolt into a regular cap nut, or even a locknut if the locknut isn’t free to rotate, is that whatever is attached to the eyebolt could cause it to loosen.

Question Mix not shown in Perdix on-board log display?

Sorry if my search-fu is weak, but: is the mix used really not available in the on-board log display? I know I can see it if I download, but it’s surprising to me that it’s not visible on the device log display.

Cabo Pulmo - Dive Master training?

Oof; I was mixing up Cabo Pulmo and Gordo Banks. Right, sorry. Cabo Pulmo is great, but if you’ve been there, you know there’s… not much. CP Beach Resort and CPDC are the only brick-and-mortar ops I recall, plus there are a number of independent individual guides. Dunno if CPDC or CPBR...

Cabo Pulmo - Dive Master training?

Don’t know anybody who would specifically do Cabo Pulmo dives for DM, but the principal (only?) operator in San Jose del Cabo is East Cape (PADI DIVEMASTER COURSE San Jose del Cabo | Get Certified), and they do DM. (They’re a branch of Dive Cabo in CSL.)

Exceeding the NDL during recreation diving

Oh, not disputing -- just jealous of your SAC. I average 0.44 and use 0.5 for rough planning, and the 20min@130fsw on air came out needing more than the AL80 even without contingencies, so I was curious. Agreed across the board on the rest.

where to replace threaded gopro adapter?

I ordered a plastic banana so I'd always have one for photos. About a dollar: https://www.aliexpress.us/w/wholesale-plastic-banana.html https://archive.ph/tLEIc

Exceeding the NDL during recreation diving

What RMV are you using? Setting aside deep air questions, I get a bigger obligation and need 78cf. I have to reduce RMV to 0.30cfm to get your numbers, and that's... impressive. I'm jealous of that. (Edit: on Nx32 with a plan RMV of 0.5cfm I get more reasonable stops and only 65cf needed...

Over 75 and I am not allowed to dive?

There’s no DOB on any of my cards, but there is a DOB on the WRSTC standard medical form. (Mind you, I’ve only once ever seen a non-trivial medical form at a dive op that wasn’t doing classes, but DOB could be on a med form, liability release, etc.) Still want to know what operator OP was using.

Over 75 and I am not allowed to dive?

There are several operators in CSL; which? Or are you claiming a conspiracy or regional/governmental diktat?

Question Backplate risk of cutting wing

I feel as though I’m channeling Tobin, but I did once get a pinch flat in my wing from a backplate corner — not during dive ops, but from packing. Now I detach the wing and pack it inside the wetsuit.
