    Just completed AOW

And as a one dive specialty it should not include penetration. You cannot have a class/speech about wreck diving and then go penetrate a wreck on your first dive. Especially at the level of someone in an AOW class. I did a wreck dive as part of my AOW and IMHO it was one of the best dives of...

    OW IS for Me!!!!!!!!!

Please don't take this the wrong way. I do hope you continue and become a safe diver some day. However I find many troubling statements in your report. You simply can not be a safe diver if a short swim leaves you out of breath. So after your success are you able to climb back on the...

    Wing for cave use.

I have steel 108s and a 50lb wing is just fine. I have an oxycheq 50lb wing - great wing. When I took my cave class - my instructor, my wife, and I all had oxycheq 50lb wings on - we had them sitting on a bench - and turned around and saw all three of them lined up. Quote my instructor - "Looks...

    Frameless mask

I got a trident FM07 (http://www.tridentdive.com/Export207.htm). Cheap, frameless, very low volume. I love it.

    Newly Intro to Cave

Flow was down but not non-existent. Much different experience than any of the Peacock dives. The parking lot was crowded but we actually saw very few people in the cave. We went in after several teams came out. Great dive, get over there before the flow is really kicking again.

    Newly Intro to Cave

Totally cool - we on the flip side have to go to Mexico sometime and see those caves! But its nice to have lots to see in about 2 hours drive. I can say from my class experience Peacock 1 has a lot to offer to the Intro diver - Peanut and Pothole out of the same cavern - both great Intro level...

    Newly Intro to Cave

My wife and I just completed Intro to Cave with Nick Leone. Kudos to Nick for putting on one heck of a class with lots of diving and focusing on our weak points (mine would be the modified frog kick). We did a cavern/intro combined split over two weekends. Dove a lot in Orange Grove, Peacock...

First steps on the road . . .

Congrats! My wife and I started Cavern/Intro to Cave last weekend and will be finishing up this weekend in the Florida caves. I'm certain we too will not be perfect Intro divers - far from it - but hopefully we will be good enough to be safe and continue the journey and learning.

    Two things after OW cert

On those nosebleed thing - I get them after diving if I'm just getting over a cold or other sinus issues. But you could have gotten them from trying to hard to equalize and that could lead to the middle ear damage.

    Any Drysuit users self-taught?

Jumped in my pool and played around a bit until I felt comfortable. Then I went diving. My wife did the same thing. No problems to date. The only formal class I know of is PADI, and their standard is to use the drysuit for buoyancy and I knew I didn't want to do that.

OW=license to dive or learners permit?

Do you really see a difference here? When you got your license you trained in a certain environment. Would you have felt qualified to drive on the freeway in California or in downtown New York (if you didn't train there)? I certainly didn't. I drove for years gaining experience before I would...

    looking to do cavern

Well I'd be looking for a class of 3 (I take it with just myself and my wife) or so and not PADI - but NSS/CDS, NACD, IANTD, NAUI (has a full tech program) Its much more the instructor than the org - but if you want to get into cave you need to choose a path that will lead you in that direction.

Questions to ask would be - What organization is the cert through? How many people max in the class?

    A DAN question

DAN is secondary medical insurance (for covered diving accidents). They will cover treatment after your regular insurance runs out, they will also cover things your regular insurance might not. Up to 7 hyperbaric chamber treatments and care during treatments Daily Hospital charges -room and...

    looking to do cavern

If you can't afford it now, save up a bit longer. If your goal is to pursue cave diving, do yourself a favor and do your training at ginnie, peacock, little river, etc. Cavern can be taken in open water gear but I made the switch to long hose and necklaced backup before the class (some...

    Cavern vs. Cave Diving

Sounds like two solo divers to me. If he enters the cave at Orange Grove or Little River and you are in the cavern - he most likely won't be able to see you (definitely at Orange Grove) and certainly you won't be close enough to help each other.

    Cavern vs. Cave Diving

Great caverns in Orange Grove and Peacock I. I've heard Peacock III is a great cavern dive. Little river is a neat cavern dive, lots of flow on the day I trained there which made it much different from Orange Grove. I think you can stick to your limits and have great fun at Peacock and Little...

    BC snaps,D rings, pockets: why

As a former military man myself I think you might appreciate a hogarthian approach. Instead of random placement of pockets, D-rings, clips etc, its a standardize approach no matter the make/model of the wing, plate, etc. Might fit very well with a military mind set, I know it does with mine.
