    steel tank size

What extra 10cf? Compared to what? Compared to a 120cf cylinder? I'd say it is worth it, but again the 120 is a different diameter and length (thinner and longer) and fits some body sizes better. Personally I'm a big fan of 130s; they are fantastic singles and doubles.

Overfilling LP Steel Tanks -- How bad is it?

I could list everything that scares me more than the possibility of a steel LP cylinder exploding while being filled to 3600+ psi, but...that would be almost everything, so I won't do that. ;) Summed up: Based off of years of actual constant overfilling evidence, if you keep your steel...

    "S" Drills

A few important things about the S-drill: 1: It shows both you and your partner that you are physically able to share air, meaning your long-hose isn't trapped by anything, you can hold your buoyancy, and you won't silt everything up. 2: It is a mental reinforcement as well, to prove to your...

Cooper River Fossil and Artifact Book!

Thanks for the info - I didn't know I could still get a copy. I'll probably pick that up shortly.

Overfilling LP Steel Tanks -- How bad is it?

Another 100psi and you could have used 1400 as thirds instead of 1300...;)

    SAC Rates

It allows us to plan our dives more precisely. :) It can also be a good indication of stress or nervousness on dives if we are breathing too much (or the reverse, if we are extra relaxed).

Nice shots, Soggy. I was recently in Charleston, SC and the last two nights I was there we had some pretty good storms come through, complete with some crazy lightning. I did not get too many shots the first night but the last night I got quite a few. Here are the best ones, in my opinion...

    Hy-Mark vs Luxfer Buoyancy

I have heard (but have no first hand experience) that the Hy-Mark cylinders were designed to be as close to Luxfer as possible, and they seem to have accomplished this. I've read a few threads on other boards where people took Hy-Mark cylinders and Luxfer cylinders side by side in a pool, same...

    SAC Rates

Personally I am not a big fan of just giving out answers to people's questions but I don't mind leading people to the correct answer. I will give you this -- SAC rate is a measure of how much gas you breathe, at depth, over a certain period of time. Expressed mathematically this is "cubic...

How much air in your BC?

I suppose I will answer "How much air in your BC?" since I never actually did, earlier... It depends on the gear setup and my weighting. With full double 130s my wing (DSS Torus 49lbs model) tends to have a good deal of air in it. With a single Al80 and my 30lbs Halcyon Eclipse...not too much...

Cooper River Fossil and Artifact Book!

Just out of curiosity -- why would someone in North Carolina write a book about diving in the Cooper River in South Carolina? There are plenty of good river dives for fossils here in NC...;) AND since they aren't as well known they aren't as crowded. I am under the impression they take a bit...

Overfilling LP Steel Tanks -- How bad is it?

We accidentally just had our double 72s filled to 3500. :shocked2: My wife told the guy at the shop (where overfills tend to be a regular thing, so we have to specifically mention that we don't want these overfilled) "no more than 2500". As I said earlier, I don't see a reason to overfill when...

Please dumb this down for me! PPO and ATA explain

It is a sad day when someone requests something be "dumbed down" for them. I can understand "please help me with these calculations" or "I don't understand, can you help..." but really...."please dumb this down" ?! Spoon-feeding the answers to you will only make things worse. This is 4th...

HID can light proper usage Salvo Li-ion

I doubt it would cause any harm to the light. From another point of view I would try to keep it on the entire dive. You never know when you might need to signal your buddies for whatever reason or emergency that might crop up.

HID can light proper usage Salvo Li-ion

While your light isn't a Halcyon, they make very similar lights to Salvo, and they have pretty good user manuals. Here is their latest user manual (~3MB PDF) and here (<1MB PDF) is the manual for their older line of lights. Just thought they might be helpful. I suppose that means all those...

How much air in your BC?

Adding weights totally screws everything up. :shakehead:

How much air in your BC?

You are still looking at absolutes. YES, some cylinders will be more positive or negative than others, but the change in buoyancy will be the same for equal volumes of air.

How much air in your BC?

Even with all that I am failing to see how the buoyancy swing will be different in an aluminum cylinder vs. steel. The metal the cylinder is made from isn't going to affect the buoyancy from full to empty, since the metal isn't changing throughout the dive. The ONLY thing changing throughout...

How much air in your BC?

You can run as many calculations as you want, but the average weight of air isn't going to change. ;)
