    Cooling tanks before filling

And yet this happens every day in cave country in Florida, and their fills are great. Using a water bath works very nicely. Just because the inside of the cylinder heats up doesn't mean that the heat can't be transferred to the water surrounding it -- in fact, it transfers quite quickly and...

Problem with valve in new Worthington HP130?

It is a hopeless situation. Send it to me immediately and I will properly dispose of it.

Please help ID this hp 100

DOT Exemption 9791 ("E9791" that is stamped on PST cylinders) is specific to PRESSED STEEL only. It does not apply to Faber, Worthington, etc. It was stamped on their true "HP" cylinders (3500psi) and their later E-series cylinders rated for 3442psi. Pressed Steel is essentially no more and...

Please help ID this hp 100

I am under the impression that DOT exemptions are time-based and must be renewed every few years (every 5 for this one, I believe?) for the cylinders manufactured under that exemption to still be legal. As far as I can tell, the cylinders manufactured under the exemption are perfectly...

*sigh* Your steel 72 is NOT going to turn into a windchime as long as it isn't made under E9791...which I don't believe it was (especially if it says "DOT3AA 2250") on the side. If it does your cylinder should last forever as long as it passes hydro and you treat it nicely.

Perhaps it would be best to get them all hydro'd a month before the exemption dies, then fill off your own compressor if you own one. Stupid government regulations and paperwork. To the OP -- from the looks of it it would appear you got a cylinder in good condition. If you get a...

Anyone order a DIN reg online from leisure pro before?

I hope our US holiday wouldn't have too much of a holdup on DiveInn since they are located in Spain. :D

Anyone order a DIN reg online from leisure pro before?

Well this is the photo for the XTX50 as seen on LeisurePro, so no, it probably isn't DIN.

    Rec to DIR

Proprioceptive feedback (thanks for the term, Lynne :D) is great when you are learning the kicks. If you ever get a chance to look back through old DIR-F (and later -- GUE-F) class reports you'll see plenty of students on the ground or on a picnic table practicing trim and kicks. This was...

    Rec to DIR

I agree with the above posters, and will add to what they said -- I am under the impression that the first DVD 5thd-x made ("Essentials") didn't have any sort of voiceover work or explanations, whereas the Intro to Tech DVD does. This really helps for those who might need a little more...

Luxfer back in the scuba business

That is what happens when someone is wrong and then they do everything they can to justify their answer. Don't worry, we've all done it...it usually happens when I'm arguing with my wife and I'm in the wrong...:D

Luxfer back in the scuba business

If you look on the Luxfer specs webpage you'll see that the standard Al80 and the new fiber-wrapped cylinder both have a minimum internal volume of 678 cubic inches, both hold 24.5lbs of water, and both are 26.1" tall. The only difference is the outside diameter -- 7.3" on the standard Al80...

    Rec to DIR

I have to say, mts0628 is really not giving himself enough credit. Quite experienced, and he taught himself how to frog kick from watching a video -- and did a darn good job. Honestly that is one of the things that I can be frustrating to teach (IMHO), so I'm glad he taught himself. :D...

Luxfer back in the scuba business

    Pressure total in a 3442psi cylinder = ([3442/14.7]+1) = 235ata. Using 40% O2: (0.40 * 235) = 94ata. Pressure total in a 4350psi cylinder = ([4350/14.7]+1) = 297ata. Using 32% O2: (0.32 * 297) = 95ata. Thus the pO2 in a 3442psi cylinder of 40% = 94ata, and the pO2 of a 4350psi cylinder of...

    What are they worth?

Colliam -- if you aren't familiar with NADCO in Greensboro you should make a trip there sometime. It shouldn't be too far away from Hillsborough; Google Maps says ~40ish miles. They are a tech-oriented (but rec friendly) shop and generally have lots of larger cylinders there. I usually see a...

I had to stop the boat to go to the bathroom!

That is disgusting. Nobody wants to see you pee on yourself, and least of all, no one wants to get close to it or step in it. Seriously, go overboard. There's no reason to pee ON THE BOAT itself.

    What are they worth?

Please don't pass along bum info. The exemption expiring, if it happens, DOES NOT AFFECT ALL PST CYLINDERS. The exemption is for the "E-series" cylinders -- the E7 (E7-80 , E7-100, and E7-120) and E8 (E8-119, E8-130). All E-series cylinders are rated for 3442psi. They are "exemption"...

Just fun, inquiring divers wanted to know..so

Interesting that the aluminum cylinders failed in the 5000psi range -- how old and abused were they? According to Luxfer the minimum burst pressure is 2.5x service pressure, or 7,500psi.

    Rolling Eyes at LDS

That is pretty ridiculous. It isn't a rare occurrence for me to go to my dive shop with a bunch of tanks from all my buddies and get them all filled. I love my dive shop -- they do exactly as I ask, every time, and don't give me any crap or BS...
