No worries...I apologize if I came across too harsh. After coming back and re-reading it I can see where it would appear that I was a bit snippy. Sorry about that.
While they might look the same, they aren't the same steel. They are made from different alloys and have different tensile strength. While I can understand the confusion due to the similar sizes between different series cylinders, they are made from different grades of steel. :)
From this...
I, too, do not understand the OP's comment. :shocked2:
Just because you are "technical" at something, does this mean you automatically get bored after a set amount of time?
Unfortunately this is how many "tech divers" burn out from diving....they think they've been there and done that, now...
Just going to throw this out there -- ever you ever considered confirming information that people tell you? :D
You don't just believe every chain email that someone sends you, right? I mean...you read it on the internet, or some emailed it to you, so it MUST be true! :shocked2:
Who cares?
Are you asking due to worries about whether or not someone will let you take the course with a 2-C backup light, or are you asking because you are taking GUE's 'requirements' as gospel and have decided you'll never use anything except what GUE recommends?
My wife...
Thanks for the suggestion. I've had issues finding a wing large enough. I was going to contact Tobin at DSS, but the idea of having a scuba wing that needed shipping on a tractor trailer just kinda put me off to the idea. :depressed: He'd probably have to make me a Torus-5,000lbs or something...
Over time they might lose elasticity but I would be willing to attribute that to environmental conditions -- having salt or whatever build up on the spring over time, if they aren't rinsed down properly.
Personally I've never had an issue with the springs on dump valves losing elasticity. I...
Springs don't 'lose resistance' from being coiled up all the time -- they lose resistance from being compressed and uncompressed, and compressed...etc etc.
As an example, think about magazines for pistols/rifles: you can keep them loaded indefinitely without any issues from the springs, but it...
I honestly can't comment on Gulftex's customer service...mainly because I've never had to use it (which I hope is a testament to their lights).
I have four PTs (two original LEDs, two standard xenons), and a few of my dive buddies each of 2 PT-LEDs.
In my house they are used all the time as a...
I can't comment on what they have currently but when I was there last August they had LP108s singles, Al80s, double Al80s, and Al30s (I think).
Everyone on my trip used double Al80s or they were on CCRs. Except one guy who wasn't part of our group, on a single LP108.
Dr. Bill doesn't like HP steel tanks because two of his failed, after he didn't realize they were rusting from the inside out due to wet fills on boats.
If you haven't noticed he has a vendetta towards HP steel cylinders.
Unfortunately it is attitudes such as yours that send divers away from dive shops in droves.
About two years ago I had a local shop refuse to fill my doubles with nitrox because they didn't have the wraps on them. I had already set down my doubles, ready for filling. Due to school...
Your tanks failed because the boats you were diving off of gave them nasty fills full of moisture, and you didn't catch it. But you continue to harp on it, and how it is obviously PST's fault that they rusted due to the presence of moisture in the cylinders. ;)
Everyone here keeps...
Awhile back, someone posted in in the basic scuba section about their amazing discovery -- leaving their tanks in the sun gave them another 200psi before getting in the water.
What they somehow didn't connect is that the simple act of heating up the cylinder does not give you more gas, which...
