Ok, but again, if you needed 16 lbs in fresh water you should’ve known from your training that it wouldn’t be sufficient for salt water. And what about borrowing some spare lead from your buddy?
And what about your buddy? Didn’t he/she have some more lead you could borrow? If you knew that 16 lbs had you properly weighted in the pool then you should’ve known that it wouldn’t be enough in salt water if wearing the same gear and thermal protection.
I’m thinking what @tursiops is thinking.
If what @kcc6001 wrote about this incident is correct, then there were a LOT of screw ups, and not just by the operator. Yes, crew should always check that a diver’s air is on before splashing. But it’s 100% the diver’s responsibility to a) make sure they got a proper fill, b) make sure their...
The Tudor Pelagos FXD has fixed spring bars. Actually, they are part of the case. So you can only use a NATO strap or other one-piece strap (elastic, for example).
This isn’t really true. Seiko has been selling tons of their “5KX” watches, plus turtles, samurais, etc, all of them automatics. And that’s just from the Seiko 5 and Prospex catalogs, not to mention their Presage line and others.
Exactly. There's not a bracelet on the market that fits over a drysuit. The diver's extension on bracelets are for wetsuits. If someone wants to wear a watch over a drysuit, they'll need to swap out to a very long rubber strap or an extra long NATO/Zulu.
Can I ask what the big deal is? I get it that it seems silly to require proof of vaccination if you can prove immunity, but if those are the rules then those are the rules. Getting vaccinated isn’t a big deal. Honestly, I’m not even sure this issue requires a thread. Unless you’re an RFK Jr...
Why do you assume that this is an inherently superior way, or that teaching the entire confined water portion over a weekend equates to just ticking skills off on a slate? Bit of a straw man argument, if you ask me.
There are definitely people who might benefit from more sessions spread over...
In addition to what the others have said, I'll also recommend that you work on your weighting, both amount and distribution. Most new divers are overweighted because they continue using the amount of weight they used during their training. But most instructors will overweight students because...
Sharing gas with a designated buddy is fine in a true OOA situation or if agreed upon beforehand so that the heavy breather can match the dive time of the lighter breather. But I'd be pissed if I saw a diver hop from person to person and then come to me expecting me to share air in a...
Keep in mind that the telescoping torso of trilaminate suits are intended to help with donning and doffing. Since the fabric has no stretch to it, you have to have the telescoping torso in order to lift the suit over your head as you get into and out of it. It's not there to cover a range of...
This was my immediate thought as well. Diving is already an expensive activity for beginners to get into, and covid-related inflation made it that much worse. Now we're likely to see gear prices go through the roof, with sales volume likely to drop as a result.
Divemasters are certified assistants. They basically herd cats, watch over students, and assist with schlepping tanks and gear. If a student is having difficulty with a particular skill a DM can take that student aside and work with them until they get the skill down, and then the instructor...
Works fine for me too. I plan on using it until it is no longer supported. At that point I’ll export the data and import it into Subsurface or some other app. Subsurface is fine, but the UI is a bit clunky compared to MacDive.
