Question Bailout gas configs for tech/deep chestmount rebreathers

He’s also has a history of bringing open water divers into the Nest during those courses, but it is neither here nor there.

Steel vs aluminum 40 for redundant: which is better?

Cons: Shorter (unlikely to actually sit properly as a sidemount bottle) ~6lb negatively buoyant when full with a stage kit and a regulator setup. An AL40 is ~2lb. Rides poorly, including when empty Adding additional weight to his right side to offset the bottle will more than likely make him...

    Dry suit dump valve leak

Which drysuit dump valve is it? Do you have another suit that you can swap dump valves with to compare? I’m guessing aquseal isn’t the answer. If you happened to do a leak test, you’d be able to verify that part. If it holes and isn’t leaking from around the valve or at the point the base of...

Question Trying to decide on a rebreather unit

They’re all totally different and there are a slough of threads talking about each of them. If your goal is to do bit dives off of a boat, a sidemount unit is not the solution. Source: have done some 100m dives with a sidewinder off of a boat. It is a shitshow. I don’t know anyone that dives a...

    Sitech pee valve

You'll find the vast majority of people that can use a cath will use a cath on every drysuit dive. Assuming it's a Trigon valve, they are pressure compensated and you will not need to do anything for those times that you do not hook up.

Question Apeks WTX-D30 screw size for attaching the backplate to the wing?

Please don't pay $50 for those. https://www.divegearexpress.com/dgx-assembly-screws-metal-set-of-two Screwdriver the best option. You could loctite the threads if you find them slipping frequently. Make sure to look under them every now and again for corrosion.

Where do you find burn time for Big Blue lights (in spotlight mode)?

Big Blue’s lumens are made up, as is. You can estimate efficiency given the drivers and batteries that they are using, but you’ll probably be disappointed. I’m sure someone will come along that owns said light and will give you reasonable estimate.

    Batteries

18650s are labeled numerically, larger batteries (Scooter, Can lights, heat batteries labeled by serial number), once a year stress test for capacitance, store between 40-80% between uses. Extra batteries depend on location and "need." Big trips would get a backup primary. Spares kit contains...

Travelling with Tek gear - i wasn't ready for the weight!

I'm with AJ on this one. I'd list out exactly what you're brining and how. Between backpack / full size carryon that's overweighted / 22kg 120L duffel, I'm able to travel with a CCR and full loadout for long range diving. Once I push into sub 10deg water or long durations, I bring a second 90L...

Which of the following is your preference for side mount, and why?

Marianna, FL is a three hour drive and will have most of the wings you're asking about in stock. I'd also guess that if you bought your final wing there, they'd be likely to make free the rental use. Cave Adventurers dives and promote a specific style of sidemount (steel bottles, valve orfices...

Sidemount Drysuit Redundant Bladder & 1st Stage configuration

I think we have a disconnect somewhere in this convo. I edited the above to clarify the aforementioned long hose on the right bottle being a 7’ second stage hose. Two 7’ hoses is silly. Why do you want a 4L suit gas bottle? Inflator hose on the right bottle in your situation should run from the...

Sidemount Drysuit Redundant Bladder & 1st Stage configuration

Assumptions: Drysuit off of right bottle, using fifth port Wing off of left bottle, using fifth port but potentially now switching to either a longer hose to run down the cylinder and back up to the inflator which is now clipped to your left shoulder d ring Necklaced reg off of left bottle Long...

Sidemount Drysuit Redundant Bladder & 1st Stage configuration

One LP Inflator hose on the 5th port for bladder, one LP inflator hose on the 5th port for drysuit. Either cap the second bladder when you use the drysuit (removing the power inflator and dump valve entirely) or route it in a place that it can be accessed orally. One should never have two wing...

    Question Chest Clutter with SMS75

At that point, maybe some daisy chains sewn into all of your suit, maybe some clipped off camelbacks on each of the bottles? Couple diveAlerts and Ducks on each inflator for good measure.
