    C1 vs T1 GUE

My experience (Vancouver Island T1 course) is that the reel is primarily there as a tool to add task loading. It was explicitly billed as not a line-running workshop - we spent about 30 minutes on dry land messing about with the reel, and then for most of the skills dives, we tied off the reel...

    Primary Light - GUE fundies

FWIW, I’ve been selling $150 (CAD) light kits with the SOFIRN SD06, a Goodman handle, and 2x batteries + charger, which has been very popular with new Fundies students and as a pocket backup for other DIR divers. They work great as a primary for not-super-long dives (<2 hours). I also make and...

    Wurkkos DL08 underwater video

I did a burn test on medium strobe mode, ran for 127 minutes before dropping down. The battery is a 21700, and there’s a USB-C charger built into the battery tube.

    Wurkkos DL08 underwater video

DL08 and an iPhone @ 50m this week. I find it’s a pretty decent photo/video light, as long as you’re relatively close to the subject. Makes for a great primary light for OW dives, with a spot that works for general use and the flood. Easy to swap between the modes as well.

Unknown Diver airlifted to hospital - Venice, Florida

I just pulled a .fit file, and it looks like it's getting pressure 1-2 times per second when above the water. Underwater it's every 5 seconds (at least in this log)

FWIW, my Garmin transmitter appears to update every second, on the surface at the very least.

Environmental seal on first stage pressed in?

All those diagrams are referencing a regulator that is pressurized. When the reg is pressurized, the environmental seal should be pushed out.

Environmental seal on first stage pressed in?

That is the correct way for it to be installed. When you put the reg on a tank and pressurize it, it should now be pushed ‘out’. You can read more about this on p32 of the (excellent) Deep6 service manual here.

    Beginners doing GUE fundamentals?

Yeah, with T1 for example, the way I’ve had it explained to me (which also aligns with my experience) is that when you show up for the course, you should have the capacity to do all the Fundies skills (valve drill, SMB deployment, S drill) while holding a midwater stop on a line. If you can’t do...

Deep six, new wing has some nice features

Is the dump valve also a custom threading? If so, would be really awesome if Deep6 could also make a DSMB with the same dump valve, I've always liked the ability to use your SMB to fix a broken wing dump valve in a pinch.

New Account and Exciting New Product

I love the focus on a no-distraction HUD! One thing I would absolutely love would be a simple compass readout, just a head number or even cardinal direction. Unlike NDL/gas/time, compass heading is one number that you often need to stare at for 5+ minutes.

    Trimming blacktip travel

Yeah, my design mounts a battery pack directly to the nose cone to move the weight further forward. (Don’t mind the tape, just an engineering prototype.)

    Trimming blacktip travel

It’s not really doable with the power tool batteries. I can sell you a custom 15Ah battery pack that, when combined with a slightly positive T handle, lets you trim out the travel (and also has 25% more capacity than the 12Ah Dewalts). Drop me a message if you’re interested!

    LP45 Buoyancy

I’ve got a pair of LP50s (Faber painted) and LP45s( the OMS/Faber ones from the 1990s) , I’ve used both as mini doubles for OC and more recently as dilout for my JJ. I haven’t had a chance to actually measure the buoyancy/weight, but my anecdotal observation is that the LP45s seem 1-2kg more...

    Ultrasonic Cleaning: suitable containers

Something like FILFISK 3-piece resealable bag set, multicolor, 1.1/1.3/2.6 qt - IKEA US, you can find them at any grocery store in Canada.

    Ultrasonic Cleaning: suitable containers

I’ve been using silicone soft bags (marketed as reusable) to do this occasionally. I’ve been meaning to try large silicone ice-cube trays, for maximum parts-organizing potential, but haven’t got that far yet.

    Question Regretting buying rebreather

Inevitably? I know one person who had to send theirs to Europe, and it was a second-hand analog unit. On the DiveCAN units, things are more modular and there’s very little that requires a factory rebuild (rather than RebreathersUSA) as far as I know.

    Halcyon Symbios

I don’t have a real-world report, but from looking at the FCC paperwork, the transmitter is definitely not compatible with anything else on the market. Totally different frequency (and modulation).

    Knobs on dump valves?

I will say, I’ve been on multiple dives where someone’s dump valve pull string (for a shoulder dump, on a Hydros BCD if I remember right) got stuck under a strap and was holding the dump valve open. One of those occasions, it was actually somewhat dramatic, with the person unable to establish...

Question Dive Xtra Black Tip Tech - Camera Mount

FWIW, I bought that mount a few years ago, and was singularly unimpressed with it. The plastic ball mounts broke off on me twice, since they don't seem to like the force exerted when you have the arms extended and get on the trigger. I'd probably use it for a Gopro, but not a bigger housing...
