    Blacktip batteries and flying

I've flown with the 12Ahs and not had a problem. As others have said, make sure you have the red cap, print out all the documentation, and give yourself 30 extra minutes in the airport so that you can have an argument with TSA without missing your flight.

    Twinset storage question

I have a 120cm (‘double shoulder length’) climbing sling with a random old shoulder pad from a tool bag slung over it. You can hook it around the valves, and then it’s the right height for me to squat and lift entirely with my legs. Not the most comfortable solution for carrying long distances...

Santi Flex 2.0 heated undersuit - how thick is it and how buoyant is it?

Once it’s compressed a little with use (say ~20 dives), it’ll be a bit more buoyant than Arctics. When I had a (brand new) Flex 2.0 that didn’t fit me, I used about 4lbs of extra lead, but I strongly suspect that would have gone down a little bit over time.

    Opinions on Apeks FSR

I have DS4s, DSTs and FSRs that I have used for my backcountry doubles regs at various points. I like the routing of the FSR (with 5th port) the most, with the extra angle all the LP hoses come off at the perfect angle. I also service my own regs, and the replaceable knife edge on the FSR is a...

Din Retainer / Hand Wheel Loosening?

I've had this happen on my Apeks regs, but only when the DIN threads are getting particularly crusty. I've taken to giving the handwheels an ultrasonic bath every 6 months/50 dives, at the same time I check all the hoses for tightness, confirm cracking pressure etc. Also encourages me to replace...

DIR- Generic Modified flutter kick technique

I don't really know...I guess because it's very small, very fast movements compared to the full flutter?

DIR- Generic Modified flutter kick technique

My instructor described it to me as trying to shake water off your toes, and that works well for me. I think most of the power comes from moving your legs at the knees (hips stay locked), and your ankles stay reasonably loose, letting the fin tips move. It's definitely a weird motion though - it...

Good diaphragm 1st stages for DIY

I second this opinion - service kits are easy to get (from Europe), and with a little bit of work you can even easily buy all the o-rings you need from an industrial o-ring supplier, and only need to source seats/diaphragms.

    LW-PLA for buoyancy?

No, this is all really interesting stuff! I’m well aware of the existing foam options - my desire to print stuff is because I want to make more complex shapes than just a tube, and 3D printing is a lot easier than the subtractive processes. I’m very curious about that PLA Gloop - I might look...

Question Deserved DCS hit even with deco cleared due to high exertion during the dive?

A few idle thoughts, based on my complete layperson's understanding of the scientific literature on DCS: - Working at depth: There is a fairly well-proven link between elevated heart rate/respiration at depth and incidence of DCS. I believe that the mechanism is increased circulation causing a...

    Thermalution Yellow battery connector question

I believe it's a type of E/O connector, which is seemingly the scuba industry standard for a waterproof, pressure-proof, wet-mateable connector. I have very similar-looking connectors on my VentureHeat vest, but I haven't had a lot of luck sourcing an identical replacement connector. If you're...
