Diver Kat's December 2011 in Cozumel list

Im gonna be at the Blue Angel staying and diving from the 27th Dec to the 3rd Jan. Hope to get a nice shore dive on Jan 1st, a nice way to start off the year. I will be there with a friend who I recently certified and we are going to polish his skills.

    miflex hose for gauge?

The thin Miflex hose is crap in my book. I had two fray close to the first stage. No more Miflex hoses for me. Now they sell them with a hose protector. If it needs a protector, then I don´t consider it a good design. The Phantom HP (not thin though) has worked very well for me.

    Hollis masks

I have to add the M1 is the best mask Ive ever had. Bar none. For the price, compared to an Atomic, which would be the second best, it's a no brainer. Great work with the M1. I do get the mark you guys mention sometimes, but I find it comfortable, fitting, with great field of view and amazing...

New Dive Computer... Top of the Line

You will probably want to take a look at the Shearwater Research Predator, as well as the LiquiVision Xeo (dunno if it is available right now or still TBD on the release date). Any of those would seem to fit your requirements.

Suggestions for 20 year old male travelling alone???

Send him to Utila. Not the best diving ever, but he can surely tkae more courses here for pretty cheap prices. The costs of living here are cheaper (specially for a young guy willing to share a dorm for example), and he can probably stay for 2 weeks or more on your initial budget. There is a...

    Trying Tec

DevonDiver, I really agree with you. I am not a tech diver myself, but it doesn´t take much to understand the basics of what Tec diving implies. I think one of the main flaws of the PADI TecRec program is that it comes from an agency who thrives from the fact that there is no concise rejection...

US Congressman Takes Hit for Flying Flag during Dive

Appropriate? I would tell those people to get a life, it's just a flag. This is not a criticism to anyone in particular on this thread, just a general rambling about this sort of "happenings". I understand some people have a deep sentiment of patriotism instilled into them, but this is...

    Wrist compass advice

There is one definitive leader: SK7 on a DSS Mount. It is THE best compass. And the money difference becomes very small when you see it is overwhemingly better than the other options.

Miflex vs Phantom Double Braided Kevlar

The problem still ocurrs. The only thing they have done to "fix it" is add a "hose protector" to the side of the hose that gets bursted. This is, I am sorry to say, a very rudimentary form of band aid fixing. The hose design is wrong, and putting something that allows some flexibility but...

    2 wetsuits at once??

I just did a local lake dive by teaming up two 3mm jumpsuits. The water temp was around 58 F at the surface. Then again, it wasn't to deep, it never exceeded 25 feet. So I was able to pull it with the 2x3mm. If you don't have a drysuit or a 7mil, try the 2 suits. It's a nice stopgap solution for...

Zeagle Flathead 7 DIN - Yoke conversion

I have a Flathead VI, and loved it. Recently I decided to buy some dive gear for my girlfriend, so I chose to instead update my regulator and inherit her my almost brand new Flathead VI. So I went ahead and ordered a FH7 from Scubatoys. Even nicer than my FHVI as expected (and a considerably...

Miflex HP hose woes ... Scratch another one

Today mi Miflex HP thin hose broke. It frayed where every Miflex HP hose has frayed thank you very much. Fortunately it was right before the dive. After reading too many cases like this I was wondering when it would happen to me. Crappy HP hose. Great LP ihoses. BTW it had 10 dives on it. Now...

$$ win free dive rite gear

Since I took the survey I have received some Dive Rite equipment. Two Transplate harnesses, two backplates and a one wing. Also three pockets, a pair of 16lb QRs, several pieces of stainless steel hardware and some other bits and pieces. Unfortunately, I have now realized I have paid for all of...

    Are you fit to scuba?

I am 35 years old. I used to smoke two packs a day (from 15 years old until I was 30). During those years, I did zero exercise. When I reached thirty I decided I wanted to really take care of myself. I quit smoking, I started doing exercise. I grabbed my ole mountain bike and I started to ride...

So I need to buy a car - clueless

My sister lives in Asheville, NC and commutes to Greer, SC every weekday. Thats 60 something miles, or around 1 hour 20 minutes in the car. I don't see how the sheer size of the car makes any difference in the commute time, or drive-ability. Don't tell me to do more research. I honestly do...

So I need to buy a car - clueless

I am not only against big engines but the big car mentality altogether. And the great American highway fiasco is just that. It's so 1950s it scares me. Going small engine doesn't guarantee better consumption, granted. But smaller car and smaller engine does. And the flimsy car on the highway...

So I need to buy a car - clueless

I agree, americans and big engines are just so 1970s. Right now I am 100% car-free (I mostly use my multitude of bicycles), which is the best thing that ever happened to me transportation-wise. But my last car was a VW with a 1.8 turbo engine, and believe me I didn´t need anymore. I am now...

What size SMB do you have?

Thanks DB, thats one fat SMB! :eyebrow: I have a 3.3ft Halcyon one I LOVE (best mouth valve ever) for most of my diving and the DAN 6ft I carry around in my divebag hoping I will use someday. I haven´t have a dive that justifies going for the 6ft visibility yet. But I am sure I will...

What size SMB do you have?

Some pictures of how different people stow it on the backplate would be interesting. Where I dive I rarely see any SMBs, and those who do have them store them in the traditional badly taught recreational way: hanging from something (D-ring, strap, etc). I am very interested in seeing what...

    Are Seadive masks good quality?

I just bought one for my girlfriend from the DiveGearExpress site. I went for the UltraVision-S because she has a small thin face, and complained of her nose being pinched with other masks. So, this one looked like it would do the trick. It fit her perfectly (too small for me, I tried it as a...
