Diver Training: How much is enough?

I am a macho Tech diver that uses no stinking electronics whatsoever, This message was verbally dictated to a midget who travelled to Scubaboard servers and punch card fed this reply.

Diver Training: How much is enough?

Actually PADI materials including the RDP still talk about 60 fpm .... Believe it or not!

PADI instructor manual and PADI's guide to teaching

The IM lists the standards and procedures for the courses. The GTT is more a set of "ideas" in how togo about the courses. So IM are the rules, GTT offers a bit more on the how to go about it. You NEED to follow the IM, GTT is just ideas and recommendations by PADI

    Muck Stick?

I see a lot of people professing care for the environment in writing in this forum. I see a whole different story when I'm diving. 98 percent of photographers touch disrupt and don't respect. Sorry that is the sad reality ---------- Post added January 12th, 2013 at 01:09 PM ---------- Also...

Feasibility of DM+instructor training, then teaching for a few years

Quite honestly, from the info you posted above, I will give youths straight answer: go to some instructor factory in central america or Thailand, do the DM and IDC back to back and start looking for work, instruction is tough business and tough competition. It is not fair leveled competition...

    Muck Stick?

I completely agree with jwillh9181, if you can´t get the shot without touching anything, just don´t get the shot, or improve your diving tehnique able to achieve it without touching anyrthing. PERIOD. Who made you SO IMPORTANT that getting "the shot" is a priority? This is the kind of self...

    Playa del Carmen lodging, cenotes

I have stayed in Barrio Latino many times, it´s fine, there is place to hang your stuff outside the room, internet, and you are close to the ADO terminal, the fifth and a lot of food options (my favourite italian restaurant is just in front of Barrio Latino) and if you are not set on Diablo, you...

    When should DMs become Instructors?

I don´t think you should overdo it either. Not that experience as a DM is counterproductive. But it is not necessary to be an assistant for years. You can just become an instructor, and continue to DM, or be an Assistant Instructor, or team teach, an OWSI rating will allow you to do all that...

Silt Out - Wreck Danger! A graphic video demonstration.

And as the cave diving mantra goes: everything will go to **** at the same time, or in a more polite manner "the incident pit" (one problem brings another problem, brings another problem, etc). Silt outs will probably be accompanied by another factor. You dropped the reel, it fell to the ground...

Silt Out - Wreck Danger! A graphic video demonstration.

My full cave included a real silt out. This was a Mexican cave. It still was done in a controlled passage where the silty portion was very localized which allowed to swim through it easily. The objective was to see a silt out an understand how silt behaves. Not so much not to see anything at...

A question about the devils eye/ear entrances

I just can´t stand people that bitch about pricing for training. Of any kind. Yoga instructors charge more than a diving instructor if you consider the dangers, equipment needed, experience needed, and other costs. Go take up yoga or some other hobby. Jeez.

    Capt Vern Killed

Wow, Im in shock. Extremely sad. It really pisses me off that there is such ignorant people (murderers, people that want to steal, drug dealers, etc). It is a common problem in all of latin america. Lack of education results in little value on human life. I have traveled many times with Vern...

    AOW to DM

It´s funny, because I am a zero to hero instructor in a way (the DM and Inst portions), but way more experienced I believe than a lot of them, and I don´t like the zero-to-hero in any form. It all depends how you break it down. I have been diving since 2001 and have enough dives under my belt...

    Getting DiveMaster in Tulum, recommendations?

Tulum is not an area known for its ocean diving. There is some diving, but most people just do a DSD or a quick dive. Most in the area go for cavern tours. There´s plenty of IDC/GoPro outfits in Playa del Carmen though. I can highly recommend Anders at GoProPlaya and Angel at IDCMexico both as...

Best dive shop for rentals and cert

A very good and patient instructor is Miguel, he works over at Blue XT. Really a fantastic Instructor and Guide. One of the REALLY good ones in Cozumel. Anyhow, I would still recommend she takes a good portion of the course locally, and just do checkout dives in Coz, or at least do the...

    BP/W setup during Divemaster training

I agree with some of the posts. The PADI Rescue exercise is pretty lame in itself. Removing people from their gear while giving rescue breaths could be argued to death as being the WRONG way of going about a rescue. But then, the point of the exercise is not really becoming an expert at removing...

    Rinse & soak

Completely agree with halocline, no problem soaking regs, just cover. I wash the valves of the tanks too. Tanks themselves of course, but more water in the valve and the neck. Also helps keeping them going in the long haul. Dried out salt is BAD.

GoPro CineForm Pro-Tune: What does it mean for new folks?

Well, you will basically get a higher data rate, which could be quite useful for underwater video (there´s quite a bit of camera movement). Now, you will NEED to apply a color correction filter in Premiere. I am not familiar with Premiere Elements (or Premiere even), you should definitively...
