    I don't get side mount?

I hear you. I really don't get, in particular, the craze over OW sidemount. And evenmore, staged decompression on sidemount is like the worst idea ever. But im old school, what can I say. Ive tried it in many ways, with a Nomad JT, with the lil diverite LT, I own a Razor 2, and still, I just...

    tech training in PI

Another reco for Matt Reed at Evolution Diving. Great instructor, fantastic place (Malapascua island), you will get a great course in an absolutely incredible location. Matt dives CCRs, does a lot of real life tech diving, and is a very good and thorough instructor. You will not be disappointed.

    Learning Tech Diving in Thailand

If you are going to take up tech diving, do it with an instructor that does the dives (outside of class) and that really has some experience to teach you well. I cannot recommend Matthew Partridge enough. CCR IT, Cave IT, Tech IT, a guy that travels around the world doing tech. And a really nice...

Info on working in Cozumel as a dive instructor?

Right now mexican inmigration law makes it hard to just come from abroad and start working. According to the current law, you need to process your work visa from abroad, and you need a sponsor to do that. It might not be as stringent as many first world countries, but it is not as easy as it...

My (or other sourced) tank on a liveaboard

Just lug around a stage. Pfff. Much easier. You just need a backplate and wing (just to make your life easier, and this is ScubaBoard so you will die if you don't use one), the hardware to clip the tank (look at the hogarthian rig in Cylinder Stage/Deco/Sidemount Straps and Hose Retainers - Dive...

oc training progression beyond adv nitrox and deco pro

Taking Extended Range AND Trimix under TDI is kind of redundant. They are basically the same course (with and without Helium). How many days of training are you getting for the TDI combo?

    Jardines Del Reina for Beginners

I don't see why not. It is pretty standard caribbean diving. They do at least 2 or 3 shark dives a week (Caribbean reef and silky), so as long as you are comfortable with that, everything else is pretty standard caribbean liveaboard diving. Nice place, good food, a good time.

Instructors should take some advanced training as well. Yea or Nay? Does it matter?

I consider first I am a diver. And I have interests beyond teaching. Also, every interest I pursue in diving, makes me a better instructor at any level, for sure. On one hand, you have more knowledge, more experience, more varied experience also. We should not forget also that becoming a...

    Recommendations for Trimix Course

If you decide to go PDC/Protec, take a look at Kelvin Davidson there. He can cross cert you IANTD/TDI, he has a GUE/DIR/Team Diving mindset that you will like if you are into that stuff, you can do most of the course on nice sink holes like Angelita, Pit, Lagoon, and he is a really nice and fun...

Patong Beach Hotel for One Night

It has no pool, but I was very happy staying at the DFeel Hostel (Dfeel Hostel), in one of the private rooms. Very cheap, very clean, and surrounded by good and inexpensive food options. I would stay there again happily. You won't find any amenities, but you can hang around a different part of...

Even better, watch The Queen of Versailles. A crappy documentary about Siegel and his trophy dumb ass blonde wife that turns actually interesting when the real estate bubble bursts.

Malapascua - Exotic Island vs. TSD vs. Evolution Diving

When you see how the Evolution divemasters/guides dive, everything will fall into place. These guys are trained by Matt and David, not only to dive in cave trim and with nice control, but with a more "experienced" mindset. They take their time, they follow the slowest, they make no noise, no...

JARDINES DE LA REINA - Advice

You basically have no options (unless Im mistaken), and you have to go with Cuban Diving Centers and the Avalon fleet. Cuban Diving Centers | the best caribbean diving destinations in Cuba I dove with them and the service was quite good. The food was really good. Now, there are several ships...

What Drives a Dive Business to Choose an Agency?

Instructor programs are generally NOT interchangeable. Some agencies will accept you "blindly" as an instructor for another agency (for example I crossed over to SDI from PADI just by paying the crossover and some dues). But that will only happen with the agency that needs the people in their...

8 FREE Guides to Better UW Photos!

This is really good stuff. To many people it might be "basic", but it's always good also to remind yourself of the basics. What I REALLY like is that in condenses all the basics and intermediate "skillset" in a fast to review and very graphical layout. Really good work, I love it!

    RIP Quero

Im still in shock from reading this yersterday. I did not see eye to eye with her in some things, but I always thought highly of her as a member of ScubaBoard. She was a key element in the community, and it feels really weird because it's almost as if we lost someone we "saw every day", even if...
