    Creation vs. Evolution

Unfortunately, people don't seem to need religion in order to kill each other. Most wars are ultimately about resources anyway. In the absence of religion some other fiction can always be found (Weapons of Mass Destruction springs to mind). Agree about the holding back of scientific progress...

Seacure mouthpiece and donating your primary

I was joking around (hence the smiley) - by following Rule #1 I would already be on the surface... probably in the bar. :D

Tying the bungee loop on the light

Ah - interesting, they seem to just make a loop from bungee and attach it with cave line. I've seen it done just from bungee too (by a GUE instructor). I guess it probably doesn't matter too much as long as it's secure.

Not a problem if Rule #1 has been properly followed :D

Seacure mouthpiece and donating your primary

Hmm, looks different to what I see on the web: and this from the manufacturers website: "The colored core is internally bonded to the mouthpiece material in the manufacturing process. However, repeated installation and removal of the unit from regulators may result in some minor, superficial...

Got My DM - But I Don't Want to Dive "This Way"...

I still wish LDS's would fix this issue simply by carrying a couple of BP/W systems in their stock. Maybe some LDS owners would like to chime in and explain why they don't do this. I would have thought the "one-size-fits-all" nature of BP/W would have made it an excellent item to stock. No need...

Seacure mouthpiece and donating your primary

I would think not. Certainly something which might be difficult for another diver to use would be not-DIR. Plus this thing seems to be a two-part construction leading to yet another unneccessary failure point (indeed the manufacturer warns of the possiblilty of separation).

    DCS - 2 months later???

I'm not sure if I should know who Dr. Kay is, but is it someone who deals with a large number of DCS cases and would have seen a widely varying range of symptoms? In any case, there are thousands of blood vessels in the body which could be blocked by bubbles and so thousands of potentially...

Tying the bungee loop on the light

Does anyone have pictures of how to tie the bungee loop on the back of a lighthead for clipping it off when it is switched on?

    Why so many casualties?

Well, I'm always willing to change my views in light of new evidence. If you have any research you'd like to point me to I'll happily read it.

    Why so many casualties?

I'm not disputing the incidence of PFO in the population, I'm disputing its clinical significance. For example, if the incidence of undeserved DCS hits is 1 in 50,000 dives for non-PFO divers and 1 in 25,000 for those with a PFO, then does this represent a risk to justify excluding those with a...

    Indirect supervision?

Here's the full definition from the PADI Instructor Manual: Indirect Supervision – a Teaching status PADI Instructor must be present at the site and in control of the activities, but does not have to directly supervise all activities. Responsibility for certain training activities...

    What's the rush?

To be honest, if you have to start splitting hairs over what constitutes a dive to get your 60 dive quota then you probably don't have enough dives anyway. I had almost 200 open water dives before I felt ready to go for DM. As the PADI DM manual says, a DM should be someone with exemplary dive...

    (Another) Dive goes bad fast.

Good advice. When I'm diving with my DIR buddies we often do multiple unannounced OOG simulations in every dive (sometimes to the point of irritation ;) ). The point is, any of these drills could be a real incident and we probably wouldn't even notice, the procedure is so well rehearsed and smooth.

    Why so many casualties?

What nonsense - I suggest you get over to the DAN website and read some proper science on this issue. If it was remotely the problem you seem to think then why aren't 25% of divers regularly getting undeserved DCS hits?

    TDI and hyperoxic trimix

Fair enough, but there is more to GUE's standard gasses than simply getting the whole team on the same stuff. GUE also teaches their "battlefield planning" techniques which basically allow you to do everything from EAD, CNS% and OTU tracking to entire deco schedules quickly in your head - but...
