    Hello from Michigan

Welcome aboard. We have quite a few from Michigan on this board with divers from the UP to the Ohio line. Hope you enjoy the reading. By the way, I am also one who loves the cold water diving and wrecks here in Michigan. But the warm water sure has its advantages.

$375 for a New 1 Mix Cochran Commander Nitrox?

Don't know if you are getting a good price or not but as far as Cochran computers go, I and 3 dive buddies have been diving the NemesisII for many years. We have had no problems with them and I would buy one again. I have the computer interface so am able to evaluate every dive which is why I...

    I´m cold!

It seems women get colder faster then men.....and I know when I am cold the dive is no fun. I dive dry, trilaminate, here in Michigan and have a neoprene dry suit for the caves in Florida. Might want to investigate that route. With the neoprene suits you have air next to you, not water. You...

    About Age

Just wanted to give you my perspective as a women tech/cave diver......I dive inthe caves of Mexico every year with a group of divers that live in the US and Europe. I am about the youngest member of this group of 10 at 48. The oldest is a man from Germany who is in his mid 60's. I started...

    Sport Diver program on OLN

Did not see this show but have dove all three wrecks and they are spectactular!! Where else can you dive 100+ year old wooden wrecks that are intact. These wrecks are for advanced divers. First it is the Great Lakes so it is cold. If diving wetsuit I would do it in Aug or Sept when the...

How long does a dry suit last?

weighing in with my .02. I bought a DUI trilam 10 years ago. I use it in fresh water, the Great Lakes, for wreck diving and also use it in the caves. I have only replaced the wrist seals once. Other then that, it is as good as the day I bought it. But then I rinse and dry it after each day...

    Salt or Fresh Water?

As a Michigan diver I am very proud to say we have some of the best wreck diving in the World. Where else can you find a intact wooden wreck that is over 100 years old and it is all due to the cold fresh water here in the Great Lakes. If I dive warm, well it is the caves of Florida and Mexico...

Mid Ear Barotrauma on My 1st Dive

I am in no way a medical professional but can only give you my experience with ear problems. Best advise I was ever given was to seek an ENT specialist who understands diving. (I called DAN and was referred to a great doctor for my son) He also experienced Mid Ear Barotrauma early in his...

    Leg cramps during dive

One of the universities in Texas did a study for their football players, and discovered Brazil nuts are a great source of potassium for leg cramps. Easy to keep with you on a dive boat too.

Were You Introduced to Nitrox in Your Basic OW Class

Unfortunately nitrox was not widely used when I had OW. Back then, most organizations were still shouting how the stuff was dangerous. My how times they do change.

    Cave diving instruction advice

Not sure where you are getting information but will be happy to tell you about my cave instruction. Don't think it is possible to go to full cave in a week. It has been a few years but when I did get my certs, doing cavern and intro to cave in a week was do-able in a week. You really needed...

    Nitrox equipment

When I first was certified Nitrox, I just used the analizer at the shop where I got my fills. One thing I was always taught was that you must analize the tanks yourself, even though the shop did it. This is a safety function. Better two sets of eyes then having a too rich mix and not know it...

    Ears

You may want to consult a ENT on your problem. My son use to dive but because we did not consult a specialist soon enough, his ear problems became very serious. He no longer can dive. Your problem may be very different but a good ENT is well worth the time and expense. I consulted DAN for a...

Dry Suit - Neoprene or shell - which is better (with poll :))

Have to agree that the best suit depends on what you need for your style of diving. I have a neoprene I use for caving but for the Great Lakes it is definately a shell. The shell allows me to vary the under garment based on the water temp, how deep and how long the dive. (I like to be...

    Can Metabolife and Diving Mix?

Best advise I was ever given, was with this type of question call Diver Alert Network (DAN). If you do please be sure to use the non emergency phone number. If you are not a member, check this agency out. They are a great resource for all divers.

Bad attitudes in diving.......A true story.

thanks for the great story telling. Like everyone else will be very interested in hearing any follow up. Hope your experience in the future is more positive. I have found most in the dive world are good people. Just a thought, aren't you glad these two found each other, that way no one...

    What To Eat Before Diving?

If you are diving from a boat, you may want to think about eating a little bland for your dives. Helps if you are prone to seasickness. I tend to eat oatmeal on mornings before going out. Stick to no caffine, no citrus, no spicy food before or during. Just remember to keep hydrated.
