    Shore diving in Coz

I’ve done the Casa Del Mar shore dive. Very convenient when staying at CdM. It’s a decent dive although nothing to write home about. One disappointment is that when the Port is closed, you can’t do a shore dive either. Ops aren’t allowed to rent you a tank.

Timeframe for diving post covid +

I considered giving the "thumbs up" to several posts in this thread but would instead like to express my appreciation to the several contributors for their thoughtful comments. The challenges of COVID to the general population, heightened by media and political posturing have made this kind of...

    Adding base layer to Wetsuit...

My 2 cents: if you are starting with a 3 mil, first add a hood. If that's not enough use hooded vest. If that doesn't do it, replace 3 mil with 5 mil, then try hood, or hooded vest. If that doesn't do it, get a semi-dry or a dry suit. Next step: battery heated vest. Finally, fly farther south to...

    Trigger fish on the menu

And there's this from Florida Dept of Health: Florida game fish most commonly associated with ciguatera fish poisoning include barracuda, groupers, snappers, jacks, mackerel, and triggerfish. In general, the larger the fish, the greater the potential for poisoning.

Nice shots! You'll find that you will get more out of the A7IV when you upgrade the lens. The 28-60 is a nice compact, lightweight walking around zoom, but the SONY sensor will really shine with the 16-34 on the wide side or the 90 for macro.

    Sandals Curacao operation?

I dont know about Sandals, but have stayed at Lions Dive Resort many times and can recommend Ocean Encounters shop at Lions Dive. Also, Dive Bus is another operator I can recommend for shore diving, including their house reef.

Question New Sony FE Lens - Tamron 20-40mm F2.8

I have used the Zeiss 16-35 underwater but find I never zoom under water, just use set focal length. For walking around street, I use the Sony 24 f1.4. ( I wish it fit in my housing and port. ) In general, zooms don’t have the sharpness of the fixed focal length lenses and most times I can just...

So black water dives are a very specific type of night, drift dive in deep water. I did one with Pura Vida Divers, out of Singer Island Florida. We headed out about 4 miles to the Gulf Stream The dive was executed within 40 feet of the surface, in ocean depth of about 750 feet. Over the course...

Cenote diving as a recreational diver

I've done a dozen ish cenote dives and have never seen an incident in my group or any other group at any of the cenotes, just my experience. That being said, most of the dive is with an overhead obstruction and some degree of darkness, both of which can cause complications in the event of...

Interesting approach to automatic Buoyancy at DEMA

Interesting. Some thoughts: -maintenance. How well will it handle constant salt water exposure? Parts, repair availability? 2024-2025 at earliest? -battery. I already have about a dozen batteries to charge between camera gear, torches, etc. One more is not a big deal but battery life, weight...

I'm done with teaching. It's time.

One thing that concerned me is the duration of our liability. Am I correct in thinking that a student could have an accident 10 years or more after training/certification and potentially add the shop/instructor to a lawsuit?

Have SB divers lost interest in GC?

I returned to GC end of July, first week of August. Seemed like tourist activity had picked up, but quiet when cruise ships were not in town. We stayed at Sunset House which has redone their rooms. Dive op was great as usual. I had visited GC annually in the 10 years preceding COVID (and one...
