My Dive Knife Is Bigger Than Your Dive Knife!

Not previously, but Jim is starting "the next big thing" in diving... "Ninja SCUBA".

    General Vortex Incident Discussion

Yeah, but man... two sets of EVERYTHING (since we are a two diver husband/wife team) including rig, regs, primary lights, etc... I wonder if I can claim him off as a dependent on my taxes...

    General Vortex Incident Discussion

Yes. I've been there on both a Tuesday & a Wednesday, and each time the tables were just about full, and there were 15-20 divers in the water.

    General Vortex Incident Discussion

I think it would be a better plan to have Edd helping me get our new sidemount rigs worked out than having him searching Vortex for more dead divers... not going to speak for him, but I don't think it is much of a reach to think he probably would rather be working with his customers earning a...

    General Vortex Incident Discussion

Taking nothing away from Ag, keep in mind how that was shot... to see her squeezing through that opening and show her face, that means the camera person had previously squeezed through that exact same restriction and then they had somehow gotten the camera through it as well, plus the lights...

    General Vortex Incident Discussion

Can you explain this a bit further? I assume it is perfectly OK to FIND a dead body in a cave (well, not OK in the BIG sense, it is freaky and horrible) as long as you don't remove it but rather just report its location?

    General Vortex Incident Discussion

When I was there, I had a nice conversation with somebody (Eduardo?) about all the stuff they have had to do to keep Vortex open and flowing, about the piping system, how they pump the sand out of there, etc. It very much isn't "sit back and let the water flow" the cave has had some SERIOUS work...

    Accident at Vortex Springs 8-20-10

If that statement didn't send a chill down your spine, I have no idea what would. Can you imagine what that would be like? Yeah, I can too.

    Accident at Vortex Springs 8-20-10

Totally and entirely off topic, but I gotta ask it... Am I the only male who watched that young lady pulling herself though that insane passage in the video posted earlier and though "Man, that's just hot." I mean... it's hard to describe... you either know what I am talking about or you...

    Accident at Vortex Springs 8-20-10

Mine too... I gotta admit when she started crawling through that crack a little over two minutes in when she was in that flow, my pucker factor was off the charts. Y'all go ahead and do that one, I think I will stick to something that looks less like a cork in a bottle.

    Accident at Vortex Springs 8-20-10

I am not a lawyer, nor do I play one on the internet, but I do know the following for sure... Every time ANY diver goes into the water, he or she is the person responsible for his or her actions. I am not just talking about going into a cave, I am talking about jumping off of a dive boat in...

    My dive buddy startles me.

It's also a good time to start working together on your underwater communications skills. If you don't know why she is touching you, then (on shore, before the dive) work on hand signals with her so you will know if she is just being friendly, is apprehensive, or if she sees Jaws coming for...

What is better and faster to cut a line with knife or scissors?

I use my sawed off steak knife, cuts better than anything else I have found including EMT shears.

    Accident at Vortex Springs 8-20-10

Feel free to start a thread on that on basic scuba and I will fill you in on what I do, rather than hijacking this thread :) :) :) (said in a good natured way, not snarky)

    Accident at Vortex Springs 8-20-10

Fair enough, thanks for the info. All I know about it is the agency I was trained for, using the materials presented in the class. I can't speak (obviously) about what other classes train having not taken them. They were advising me to go outside the limits of MY training. Whether my...

    Accident at Vortex Springs 8-20-10

We were trained to the NSS standards using the NSS Cavern Diving Manual, which states that the limit is 130 linear feet and 70 feet in depth. I don't know what other training agencies say, but that's what we were trained to.
