Humming is a way to keep positive pressure in your sinuses. If you are looking down / ahead and humming, I don't think you'll get any water up your nose.
Competitive swimming isn't the same as swimming in the open ocean. Swimming to a victim and towing them in wind, waves, and current is a different kettle of fish than a 400m freestyle at a swim meet. Most adults I see who struggle at the pool have 2 main flaws that slow them down in freestyle...
i use a G-Shock as a failsafe bottom timer. If it gets crushed / lost / stolen it's not a big deal. Buy another for $60 or so. There's no crying in scuba
One example of a rescue is to drop the weights of someone struggling on the surface & put air in their BC. It's not necessarily a ascent from 100 ft. and a 400m tow.
In-water rescue breaths can be effective. So is there a current consensus as to rescue breaths while towing? Decisions modified by pulse/no pulse, 1 rescuer versus two or more, quick vs longer tow to boat/land. There should be some objective agreement.
Take rescue. Many divers are clueless, someday you’ll see someone who needs help. A boat captain may need a hand with cpr, etc. Don’t let fear of imaginary courtrooms affect your best judgement. You don’t have to tell anyone you have a rescue cert.
I would like to show up on the boat with one of these bungied to my backplate:

Maybe i'll get the lecture about a trilobite or shears being more effective, maybe not.
