How to vet a dive shop

Try to find a good instructor, then ask about private instruction. It might not cost much more than a class. It helps if you are a quick learner of the written stuff i.e. gas laws, physics, that stuff. The 2 of you get to work out the schedule, like pool sessions at 5am.

Cressi Leonardo - MOD vs PO2 discrepancy

My guess would be Cressi adjusts the oxygen percentage as a way to account for errors in the measurement given by the depth sensor and / or errors in the gas mix. 0.8 / 32 is 2.5%. This would be safe real world engineering versus the exact numbers in the model.

Wife describes losing husband - Maui, Hawaii

The times I dove Molokini were awesome. The weather was great, as was the boat and the crew. Kona coffee, fresh pineapple, whales everywhere, it was awesome. One thing I remember was almost nobody paid any real attention to the dive briefings. I'll bet half the divers didn't realize the back...

Palm Beach diver loses arm as group hit by boat - Florida

Well I'm not a boater but if I thought someone might be in distress I would check it out by motoring to a spot a safe bit away from them to the deep water side where I could stop and take a look. I don't think I would aim right at them with my screws turning.

Palm Beach diver loses arm as group hit by boat - Florida

I think what would hurt a reckless boat driver the most would be for a judge to ban the boat from sailing for a long time. Owner may have payments, slip fees, insurance, etc. but the SS Minnow isn't going anywhere for 1, 5, 10+ years. Slap a temporary lien on the boat for 10x it's value so it...

How "much" of air consumption is physiology? How to improve consumption?

Muscle fibers doing any work use O2. Relax as much as possible, use as few muscles as you possibly can. Use your arms as little as possible. Any anxiety causes muscular tension, burns O2. You probably have 3-4 times as much muscle as a 100lb woman, you prob can't compete with her in air...
