    That pesky Medical Statement

I cannot remember ever having to provide the medical release to do a dive with a dive operator. I always bring mine signed by my doctor so that I have it needed. If I was taking a class I have always had to sign the release. I think one of the biggest issues I nave heard of is the person that...

    Big guy... big tanks?

The other question with steel tanks is HIgh Pressure or Low Pressure. I am not going to get into pros and cons of either as it has been debated adinenitum here. You will probably never keep up with your wife and daughter. Women generally use less gas than men. The more you dive the better your...

How fit are you for a Rescue ?

The Rescue Class should not be about the physical capabilities of the students. It should be about what to do, when to do it and how to do it. The class should be as much about you not becoming a second victim as it is about rescuing some one else. The biggest physical part of the course is...

I really want to learn to scuba, but I smoke

Smoking in its self is not a contradiction to diving. It can lead to other conditions that can be. As a general rule you do not have to be a great swimmer or a well conditioned athlete. That being said it is generally considered good to have good cardio conditioning and good general body...

How fit are you for a Rescue ?

With the proper skills a small person get a large person out of the water and onto shore. You are not carrying them out of the water but dragging them out on your back. The Rescue Class is well work the time and effort. I generally try and DM the Class once a year to keep my skills and...

How fit are you for a Rescue ?

This is an interesting topic to me as a DM who is reaching an age when the question arises in my mind "It the excrement hits the air handling facility will I have the physical ability to get an unresponsive or injured dive back to shore and be able to render assistance when I get them there." I...

    Training and Gear

Some of the Sidemount systems are better for AL tanks and minimal or no exposure protection and some are better for use with steel tanks and lots of exposure protection. The main differences are size and lift of the wing. If you will be diving steel tanks and a dry suit you will probably need...

    Conshelf 14

The later seconds had the plug on the side opposite the inlet making them easier to adjust. I believe these were called the 14 not the XIV. There may be some differences in the 1st stage but am not sure, the specs, size and number if ports, on the Conshelf 14/XIV 1st stages tends to be a little...

    Titan LX Regulator

I believe that any difference between the Core and the Titan is the second stage in the package. The Titan I believe uses an unbalanced second stage and the Core uses a balenced second stage. The Supreme designation comes from the 1st stage having the Environmental seal on it making it suitable...

Pony or buddy when low/no air?

As others have said you buddy is your back-up. That being said there are times when the buddy is not an option. The two major reasons for the separation are "bad buddy" you know the ones I am talking about, new or instabuddy who has no awareness of where he is where he is going and just wanders...

Need help with dive bag/Travel bag?

A lot of diver prefer not to pay the SCUBA tax and just buy regular luggage that fits their needs. If you use regular luggage it is generally cheaper and you are not adverting that you have a suitcase full of expensive gear.

    What first stage is this?

The 1st stage in your picture is the US Divers/AquaLung SEA/ Cousteau and service kits are still available. The service kit number is 900000.

    What first stage is this?

Those are the ones that I had on the Cousteau!s that I had and on the Apeks DST's that I am using now for Sidemount. They work very well. The only drawback I can see with them is it adds one o-ring and creates a problem with the DST's if there is no hose on the adapter they can mess up the...

    What first stage is this?

I have never seen a 5 LP port one. Unless you need the 4th LP port put a plug in it and turn it whichever way suits your hose routing best or get a 1/2" hose. They are still available new but would cost more than reg or look for a cheap used one here or eBay. I am sure there are quite few just...

    What first stage is this?

Yep it is a Cousteau or a SEA or a Micra depending on which 2nd it came with and if it had the environmental seal. At the time I believe it was their top of the line 1st stage. Solid reg easy to rebuild and reliable. They are big and weigh a ton.

    Sea sickness patch

Scopolamine/Hyocine is or was available as tablets on eBay. I have ordered it a couple of times out of England or Australia. I prefer them to the patch for several reasons. 1 you can take it an hour or two before your activity not 6-8 hours before, 2 you can control your dosage and how often you...

Crotch strap that is adjustable DURING the dive (no quick release buckle if possible)?

Using one of these with a webbing loop around the waist band and adjuster would probably accomplish what you want. Plastic Strap Adjusters - Webbing Adjusters

    Ear / Sinus Squeeze

I get very minor nose bleeds fairly regularly and think it is a combination of ear clearing, my right ear sometimes is little hard to clear, and a little bit of mask/sinus squeeze. If the nose bleed is very minor you may have a tendency to get a small amount of sinus/nasal damage. Very minor...

    Ear / Sinus Squeeze

If you have sinus issues one of the cheapest and easiest solutions that will probably help is doing sinus irrigations once or twice even three times a day as a daily routine. you can get several types of irrigation systems at just about any drug store, NeilMed squeeze bottle, Neti Pots of...
