A Sincere Question about Console Vs. Wrist Computers

Nice plot! What is the cause of the inflection between 0.1cm and 1cm? Reynolds number?

A Sincere Question about Console Vs. Wrist Computers

Indeed, "bubbles" is a much too broad statement to be of much practical value...

Gradient factors - deep stops thread in DIR forum

Hi, I think this depends quite on the dive, no? Now, sitting in front of a computer and just having the numbers to go by, of course most of us will say "34 minutes, as the risk is lower when not pushing it!". But I also have to think this logic through. The risk will go to zero for a bottom...

    Tungsten weights for scuba

Well, at least with the neutron star shot weights your overweighting will be only half as bad after 10 minutes...

    Brain-freeze Headache in Cold Water

I have a K01 hood, which is extremely warm.

    Tungsten weights for scuba

Now you are giving me an idea. I may even take a fundamentals class, stick to German altogether, and call myself "GUEbirne"!

Is a great documentary, like so many works by this living legend!

    Tungsten weights for scuba

I sometimes imagine diving iridium weights. About twice the density of lead, and not toxic. Osmium is even a little bit denser, but I somehow like the sound of "Advanced Iridium Diver"...

Adding helium: some numbers to think about narcosis.

Indeed sounds like a very interesting study!

A reminder about deep air/ or not

That was long before my diving times, but would that not be quite prone to rusting?

    Shark attack off Queensland

That is precisely why I wrote "reasonable". Modern medical aids may make a relatively normal life possible.

    Shark attack off Queensland

One can only hope for a good or at least reasonable recovery!

    Helium prices ...

Everything else being said, at some point the world will have to start considering helium a finite resource. That may mean higher prices, and for some this may mean to not use it for diving, or to switch to CCR. In Germany, Helium prices have always been very high compared e.g. to the US, so...

Adding helium: some numbers to think about narcosis.

I think to call it a "rule" is very hard to defend in light of actual data. As said, for several gases there seems to be an established correlation between lipid solubility and narcotic potential, but it is not established that this goes back to the actual working mechanism of the narcosis, and...

Adding helium: some numbers to think about narcosis.

Very interesting topic! I think it is however important to realise that while the Meyer-Overton-correlation is probably to good to be just coincidence, modern science does not consider lipid solubility as the one decisive factor in gas narcosis. It should thus be treated carefully I think. This...

47 Meters Down: The Next Chapter

Maybe the next movie in the series will then feature a tornado that lifts up people from land and deposits them in water where the sharks are waiting?

Do you download your dive computer data?

I would not have imagined this topic to be so divisive. My dive computer at least has a rechargeable battery.
