Washing wetsuit in washing machine - top result - bad for the washing machine?

Please note that everyone who does this uses a front loader. A top loader will destroy the wetsuit.

Padi Scuba Diver Cert. vs. Open Water Cert.

If you are trying to save the difference between ow and scuba diver, diving is the wrong sport for your wallet. The course fees are just the tip of the ice-burg. When they certify you, somebody installs an invisible adapter on your wallet. This makes the vacuum effect possible every time you...

    Failure to Deploy... SMB Problem

But that is not what you said. I wasn't questioning that inflating an SMB is harder at shallower depth. I was questioning your explanation of the physics.

    No deco and dive computers

You need to get shallower than the maximum allowable depth for your current controlling tissue compartment in order to gain significantly more time. This is why the eRDPml has a minimum depth change to consider you to be at a new level on a multi-level dive. ---------- Post added June 9th...

    No deco and dive computers

You sound to be very new to diving. The depth limits from your OW course are there for a reason, and you need to inch your way past the 60 ft limit very slowly. You also need to have better redundancy when you go past 60 ft. This means that you must be able to absolutely trust your dive...

    Failure to Deploy... SMB Problem

huh? An SMB is not a rubber balloon. It doesn't expand. it fills up more or less with air. The amount of buoyant force the SMB exerts on you depends on how much you fill it. If you fill a 20L SMB 1/4 full, it will pull up with 5kg force (and yes, there is a such unit as kg force). As it...

    Failure to Deploy... SMB Problem

That is a great idea. Especially considering that the times you could most use an smb are sometimes when you are least able to inflate one.

    A vortex?

Quick engineering point. Ft-lbs is a unit of torque, moment, or energy. It is not a unit of thrust.

    Failure to Deploy... SMB Problem

I always put a tiny amount of air orally to get the smb standing up straight. Doing this might unravel whatever was causing your problem.

    Backplate and Wing

To be clear, my friend is talking about being the instructor, not taking a course.

    Backplate and Wing

I am currently getting into a backplate and wing set up, and I have a friend who is doing the same. She said that she would have to retain her BCD because PADI didn't allow training in tech gear. Other than the fact that backplate and wing is used for technical diving, I really don't...

    Question about Nitrox certifications

I was taught to do the calibration myself. ---------- Post added June 8th, 2013 at 08:38 AM ---------- I had a choice of doing the course with my LDS for $200 no dives, or $200 elsewhere with two free dives. It was a bit of a no brainer. They did say that if I caught a cold, I could just...

    Deep Diving Query

Whether or not a regulator is air-balanced has absolutely nothing to do with how hard it is to breath at depth, and everything to do with how the regulated pressure varies with tank pressure for the first stage, and how the cracking pressure varies with the intermediate pressure for the second...

    Further course, no deep diving?

You don't need to take any courses unless they are required for a charter you will be doing. You can learn a lot from experienced divers, and instructors without getting a certification for each new thing you learn. Since deep diving is the only thing that the AOW cert is required for, and...

    No fin fight, OK?

Who says you can't use one fin for open water, and one for cavern? I wear a 3mm wetsuit in Cozumel, and a 7mm in lake Huron. I have never wasted time trying to find a compromise wet suit, and I don't see why I would waste time trying to find a compromise fin.

    guys,before you consider any sport...

Given that diving is one of the few sports where you are required to learn about the dangers and safe procedures, and prove that you have a minimum skill level and understanding, before anybody will even take you out to do it, this thread rates about 0 on the usefulness scale.

200' on air for 5 min bottom time?

    Rental Gear Question

Actually, the quoted depth is for a single sample sitting very still. It doesn't included any sort of shock or movement. The minimum depth rating for any dive watch is 200 m. You could get away with 50 or 100, but that would be lucky.
