Dive Computer or Tables - which is safer for a newer diver?

And we here that a lot, especially from an LDS who wants to sell us the latest $1000 regulator set. However, I don't here a lot about incidents involving rental regulator failures. Dive shops tend to purchase the minimum bells and whistles easiest to maintain regulators, and they service them...

How do you know your BCD is fully dry after rinsing?

Once the water stops coming out, just make sure you store it partially inflated. A little mouth wash in the rinse helps ward off bacteria and mold but I don't think most people find it is a problem either way.

Dive Computer or Tables - which is safer for a newer diver?

I bought a computer and bcd before anything else. A regulator is the least personal of scuba items. I put it way down on my list of to buy. That being said, I did buy my own regulator so I could get the console configuration the way I like it. A dive computer is a wonderful item for a new...

    Yes, another wetsuit fit post

I second the tight around the neck comment. If a wetsuit or hood squeezes one or both of your corodid arteries, you can black out without warning. Black out under water = 99% chance of death. If it weren't for that, you could just try it and see.

    New dive camera.

I am wondering why somebody posting in the basic scuba forum (recreational diving forum) is concerned about if a camera can be taken beyond 39 m.

    Motion sickness question

I discovered the cure for seasickness today. A 15L tank instead of a 10.4 L tank. More air = more time under water = less time at the surface and on the rocking boat.

How to store tanks: Empty or Filled?

I would say 3000. The reason is that when you are healed you may get an opportunity to dive on short notice when you can't get them filled.

One stupid thing I did that new divers should avoid

Point 1: I was refering to if you were off the end of the table limit. Point 2: Good point.

One stupid thing I did that new divers should avoid

With gauge mode and tables, you are also using a different algorithm and if you are off the tables, you lose your backup.

At what water temp can I start diving wet in a 7mm suit

The water temperature was NOT 35 F. It it is IMPOSSIBLE for fresh water to get below 39 when there is no ice present, except at the very surface, and if the air temperature was 59, the surface water temperature was definitely not 35. Also to Mr. PG 5 Degrees Celcius is not 37 Degrees...

    Nitrox table vs computer question

I don't . I always plan my MOD for the hard deck. Never know when narcosis is going to kick in.

One stupid thing I did that new divers should avoid

I guess the cheaper computers may be the better ones for some things. It would be impossible for me to accidentally set my computer to another mode from the one I set it to. I have to hold 2 buttons for five seconds to change anything and essential parameters like Nitrox mode and Gauge mode...

Galaxy Diving (using glow stick material in water)

Chem lights are relatively cheap. However, I do wonder if non-toxic for humans is equivalent to non-toxic for aquatic life.

    Motion sickness question

Being LOA is the worst feeling for me when I know the surface is choppy and I have to get back on the darned boat. The worst is when you have to resist throwing up over the side of a zodiac because other divers are in the water trying to get in.

Where to keep SPG on a dive

I also attached my lp inflator hose to my hp SPG hose. The only drawback is that with an airtrim bcd, I would not be able to read my SPG in the event of a mask failure. However, if this happened, I would be ending the dive anyway.

    Dive Computer Error

If a temperature sensor is used to compensate a pressure sensor, it only needs to know the temperature of the chip, and not necessarily the exact temperature of the water. Furthermore, they would be calibrated together so any temperature reading error would be calibrated out. Dive computer...

    Dive Computer Error

I don't think it is accurate to call decompression models a "best guess". The models we used are all corelated with data taken from real human trials, and they are based on substantial investigation into decompression theory. While none are perfect, they are far from a "best guess".

What would you do with slow inflator leak on a liveaboard trip?

I read somewhere that there was a debate when power inflators first came out about whether they were even safe for recreational diving.

    Nitrox table vs computer question

I would have just liked, but like seems innapropriate for this post. I am glad you posted this. It is important for people to remember the chance of surviving this is exceedingly low.

    Dive Computer Error

Plan your dive and dive your plan. You can safely continue your dive if you meet the following conditions: You have a backup dive computer OR You planned your dives using tables on the surface AND You tracked all of your dives using tables, and are still on the table (haven't exceed any table...
