Absolutely true! FWIW, I store all of THAT stuff in a shed out back, and paint in a closet in another part of the house. All my scuba gear, including oxygen stuff, is in the garage. This garage is actually converted to a room with a proper wall/door and is at the bottom of my 1930s townhouse.
