Watching the boat go out of sight must have been agonizing, then a speck in the ocean, then to be found in the dark! The Coast Guard, the best and only thing between here and gone.
Time to add an SOS flashlight to your must have list, Don.
At this point any dives anywhere will be an improvement to your skills and ability to handle diving. Dives in a tougher location like the UK will make warm water diving feel simple.
Plan to do some dives prior to getting on the LOB itself mainly so you spend the time enjoying the dives...
When I started diving I thought the point for the vast majority of divers was to see the amazing critters, but I have since found that is not the case for a larger percentage than I expected. I can see tech diving and cave diving for the places and things you get to see there not just to look...
Meaning no disrespect, if wooden crosses line the bank where I am getting in, I think would pass. I did look at some Youtube videos of the diving and it looks as I expected. I am lucky to live near an ocean.
RIP to the diver in this case.
<<You didn’t enjoy the “nightlife” in downtown Koror” ?>> :-) Not the cultural events I'm interested in.
Hmmm...I'd forgotten about the jail for the storyboards. I missed that too.
I agree with Runsongas comment. As I dive liveaboards where similar quality is similar in cost across the globe, the problem I have with Palau now is the cost of the flight to get there, at least from the Western US. I can go all the way to Indonesia for much cheaper and there is so much to do...
Perhaps do Palau or Fiji before you do FP. FP does have currents but also they tend to dive deep in their sites which uses your air quicker so being comfortable, and reasonably fit, would be a good thing.
Palau tends to be wall dives and ironically for your question, drift dives where you...
Late to this party and on all of the liveaboards I have been on, dives were each different experiences and, as mentioned, there was little time for boredom if you do most or all of the dives.
However, if you want to guarantee no downtime, bring an underwater camera. Between setting it up for...
I have been on the Dewi in RA for 12 nights and would highly recommend. It is a very large boat vs most liveaboards. At times, it was tough to tell we were on a boat but never felt like it was cumbersome. That said, we never had a problem getting into dive sites because they use skiffs and we...
Thanks for the report. I also love that area of the world and will have to travel out there given your comments about how many liveaboard now inhabit RA. Your photos reminded how nice the outdoor showers are to have.
No cell service is a positive to me. Nice to get away from the world. :)
Please note I suggested the fan because you would have it if you need it. To reiterate, my own overwater bungalow experience in Tahiti was it was cool enough with just ceiling fans and in fact did not have AC and further just being a bungalow on the beach started to make a big enough...
The story below describes a New Zealand fisherman who fell out of his boat and was rescued 23 hours later because he was able to get the attention of fisherman using the sun reflected off his watch.
Signaling with a mirror is not a revelation and our hobby has lots of devices/colored stuff to...
First Landing Resort is in that area and has a dive shop.
We also went with some other resorts on the nearby islands like Musket Cove but not sure how to get there. from boat
Cannot comment on the time of year but have been to places 1 and 2. Both good. Palau is beautiful above water, is maybe easier diving as it tends to be mainly wall diving and drift diving with lots of historical things to see above water, while Solomons is good and has varied diving and...
Thanks for the report. I also love the Indonesian area and boats for diving and culture.
The food issue sounds annoying since you've got no other choice for food. I also like the opportunity to eat the local food, but the fact that you were in Egypt and the better food was hot dogs and pizza...
I've stayed at First Landing several times and always had a good experience. As in very nice staff, rooms were good and food was good. I've never went diving from there, I've always stayed on the way to another experience or going home. Lots of Australians (I assume) went there and rugby...
