DIR- GUE segregate deco regs from stage regs?

It's been re-re-re hashed many times over many years why DIR does what it does. If you want to argue personal choice, you are in the wrong forum.

GUE vs. TDI in terms of opportunities in scientific research projects?

If you are GUE trained you can participate in GUE projects and also ones put on by non-GUE groups. If you train with TDI you most likely won't be able to dive on GUE projects. If I was just starting out I would go with the GUE training.

Questions on becoming a Dive Instructor (Plan sanity check)

Why? Why do you have a burning desire to become an instructor? Why not just be a diver?

Any one thinking about becoming an instructor?

I know quite a few friends (mutual and otherwise) that quit teaching in the past year because it just wasn't worth it.

    Oxygen Clean Tank Valves

When I worked in an air testing lab (ok, full disclosure I owned the place) pretty much every compressor from every fire hall, scuba shop, or oil field SCBA fill station, met and exceeded OCA standards without anything other than the filtration that came with the unit. Of the thousands of tests...

I built a web app to help plan deco dives

That dope would have to come from inside Canada and/or be willing to travel to Winnipeg (said nobody ever) to file the lawsuit.

Kootenay Lake, British Columbia, Canada 110M (360') wreck dive

There are a few pictures around when it was operating. This is the wikipedia entry with a picture from 1894. Hog posts and hog chains were installed sometime after this and before the sinking to stabilise the hull. City of Ainsworth (paddle steamer) - Wikipedia Nothing is still standing...

Kootenay Lake, British Columbia, Canada 110M (360') wreck dive

Between August 28 and September 2, a team of experienced scuba divers re-located and dove on the remains of the 25m (84 ft) sternwheeler “City of Ainsworth” in Kootenay Lake, BC. The City of Ainsworth was lost during stormy conditions on November 29, 1898. Its’ whereabouts were unknown until...

???Future of Open Circuit Mixed Gas and Rebreather Diving???

The average diver doesn't do 60m dives nor should the average diver be diving CCR.

For Sale: Federal Helium System and 800 Million Cubic Ft of Crude Helium

If that is what it takes to make sure I have access to helium I'm in. However I better run this one by the wife first. She was OK with me buying a compressor and booster years ago. This should be OK with her as well.

???Future of Open Circuit Mixed Gas and Rebreather Diving???

I absolutely value the skills learned in taking OC trimix first. It was always (still is) my thought that unless one is solid on OC then one has no business going to CC. If someone has to bail out on a rebreather they are an OC diver. When I switched from OC trimix to CCR the bailout part was...

???Future of Open Circuit Mixed Gas and Rebreather Diving???

Outside pockets of the US where Helium is available and relatively inexpensive, there is no future for OC mixed gas. So that element of the roundtable is moot.

    Biggest Challenge

I don't understand why? Train them to respond to what they may face. If they find that easy then make them your best buddy going forward. Creating training scenarios to ridiculous extremes until they fail is just dumb.

    JJ vs Tiburon weight

Thanks for the detailed reply. I'm looking at switching from the Tiburon to a JJ but I heard the JJ's are quite heavy which is a concern when flying. I'm already near max weight when I go to a place where I have to bring my drysuit.

    JJ vs Tiburon weight

For flying purposes, what is the empty weight difference between a JJ and an ISC Tiburon? The JJ website says to expect around 20KG for that unit empty (seems high) and the ISC specs say 5 KG for the Tiburon empty (seems way low). No wings, backplate, etc.. Just the can and counter lungs.
