    No see ums in Fiji?

Are you using any new sunscreen or anything on your arms? Could be allergic to something that you're applying. I agree it's a weird one. Doesn't sound like no-see-um's/sand fleas, and doesn't really have the hallmarks of insect bites either.

Need a new dive light suggestion

We like our Kraken lights. My partner uses the NR-1500Z (now replaced by NR-1800Z) and I use a Hydra 1500 WSR as my camera rig aiming light on night dives. If you want more power they also have options at 2500 lumens and greater, but I've found the 1500 is adequate for warm/clear water. Good...

    No see ums in Fiji?

I've never experienced no-see-ums in Fiji, and also you normally get those mostly on lower legs from standing/sitting on or near the beach. Are these just on your arms, or your entire body? If entire body, bedbugs also a possibility. I second the guess of an allergic reaction of some sort...

Is Egypt Getting an Unfair Reputation When It Comes to Liveaboards?

I think you can tell a lot about a place like Egypt just based on the economic conditions. Nobody should be surprised that safety is left by the wayside someplace where liveaboards have to price well under $2000 USD for week long trips to be competitive in the market. Combine that with a lot...

    water temp

My guess is that it's mostly for being immersed in water. Water conducts heat far better than air, so immersing your computer in 95-100+ degree water for long periods while the computer is being heavily taxed could potentially cause it to overheat and shut down to cool off. So yeah you can...

Info Scubapro Announces the new updated MK17 first stage, the MK17 EVO 2!!

Looks Like the options are only the R105, though I found one place offering the R195 (which isn't much different). R105 will be fine as a secondary for the type of diving I do (recreational). I'm set to order a pair from one of our business sponsors here, 2x DIN Mk17 Evo2 / S620Ti / R105...

Cove Eco Resort it is! Now, how to get there...

Yeah I looked briefly at going via Bali on that flight, but decided on Jakarta because there were just more backup flight options from there to Sorong on the off chance that something crazy happened and I needed to rebook.

Info Scubapro Announces the new updated MK17 first stage, the MK17 EVO 2!!

I've been eyeing the sales going on now with Scubapro throwing in a free octo with the purchase of a Mk17 Evo2 package. Considering maybe two Mk17 Evo2 DIN S620Ti sets. (for me and my buddy) Any more feedback on that from anyone in this thread recently? How does it perform, and how is the...

Cove Eco Resort it is! Now, how to get there...

For reference, the only current North American cities served nonstop by Singapore Air are EWR (Newark), JFK, LAX, SFO, and SEA. I think Air Canada may also fly there out of Vancouver. Just so all the options are out there.

Cove Eco Resort it is! Now, how to get there...

For ideas, we're staying at The Clan Hotel Singapore just east of chinatown not far from the raffles, clarkes/boat quays, marina bay, etc... Sort of right in the middle of everything and right on transit as well. Plenty of great food, bars, and sights within a few minutes walk. I would concur...

Cove Eco Resort it is! Now, how to get there...

Yup, 24+ hours of travel each direction is pretty standard for getting out into the remote Pacific from North America. My only advice is to just accept that going in, and make that time as comfortable and stress free as possible. Like you're doing planning the overnight in Singapore rather...

Cove Eco Resort it is! Now, how to get there...

Yeah I'm going to Indonesia for the first time from the US (west coast), and I'll echo the Singapore recommendation. We elected to fly nonstop from Seattle to Singapore and spend a night and most of the next day hanging out there, on each end of the trip. For a few reasons: Singapore Air is...

Rebreather UK wreck-diving legend Jamie Powell dies

Good reminder to always be prepared to treat DCS or other medical emergencies, have insurance, evacuation plans, know where the nearest chamber is, etc... Because you can follow all the rules and do all your deco perfectly and still get sick (even if it's extremely unlikely). Will be...

    Housing Fogged After Battery Change

Yeah the only thing you can really do is have a towel or cloth to get any droplets when you have it open, and bring lots of fresh desiccant packs and use them. Unless your housing has a vacuum port, since lowering the pressure inside your housing also lowers the dew point, making it less likely...

Volcanic eruption and sea life impact

I don't think anyone knows. Indonesia has 127 active volcanoes, so odds are that some are going to be doing something at any point in time. It's a hazard of the region, just like storms are in other areas.

    no more diving

Yeah I don't think anyone is going to dispute that if you have any sort of cardiac issues you should think hard and get a thorough medical evaluation before any diving. No different than people with epilepsy or other sudden-onset medical conditions, which while not necessarily life threatening...

Volcanic eruption and sea life impact

That's gonna need a bit of a rinse.

Volcanic eruption and sea life impact

Probably not much at all. Most of the pumice/ash that falls on the ocean will float and form rafts. Some could get into the water column and perhaps slightly impact vis, but I doubt the marine life will care or notice.

    no more diving

Not a doctor, but I'm somewhat skeptical about the statements about drug strength/concentration increasing like gas partial pressure with depth. I'd strongly encourage you to get additional opinions/explanation and/or actual literature and data on that. Is it just these meds? Why don't divers...

Trip Report Trip report - Fiji June 2025 - Taveuni Dive Resort and Volivoli

Haha ok, "Fiji Time" strikes again. I'm sure they'll get to it at some point, but I think the idea was to have a small bar and some seating down by the beach there for use in the afternoon/evening.
