I'm in the US and just bought a pair of new regs, taking the opportunity to move to DIN. A few reasons:
DIN is a superior connection. Threaded is just plain better than a clamp/pressure mounting, and this is why you need DIN for high pressure applications. There's no o-ring in the tank...
I've dove on Viti Levu, as well as Kadavu and Taveuni. There's a few things to note
The best diving off the north of Viti Levu is largely in the Bligh waters, which has some good pinnacles but requires relatively long boat rides and often full day 3 tank trips with lunch to get to the best...
Do nothing to the light and contact the manufacturer. If they are reputable they should at the very least work with you to determine what happened, and may do a repair/replacement regardless of whose fault it was.
It's pointless to dry it out and throw new batteries in without first...
Yes I've removed my rig in the water many times. Everyone should have learned this in their OW class, right? Unclip crotch & chest straps, release belt, swim out of rig.
Whether to ditch weights totally depends on the situation. Many divers for example my not be diving with much ditchable...
Any diver with enough dives has done this at least once. I know I have. In my case I just calmly kicked to the surface, blew some air in my BC (though I was barely negative since I'm not overweighted), and had someone on the boat help me with the valve. Since then I've been working on tank...
While not the exact same boat, the two most recent Red Sea Aggressor trip reports in this forum are pretty harrowing in different ways, both having little to do with the boat and more to do with the company and the general state of their operation. I would recommend caution when dealing with them.
While I agree about the need to dump lead sometimes, it's worth pointing out that if you jump in the water and are <10 feet down when you realize your tank is off and you're already sinking so fast that you can't just kick to the surface in a couple seconds, you are overweighted. A properly...
Huh, you're right. Couild've sworn I've seen the numbers update more quickly than that. In any case, still works as long as your reg test cycle lasts at least several seconds, which I'm guessing I usually do.
Mine at least refreshes pressure from the transmitter much more frequently than every 5 sec. At least once if not multiple times per second. The capture rate of all the data to your dive log is what is normally once every 5-10 sec.
Before jumping in I usually take a breath or two out of each reg while watching my pressure, in my case the AI computer on my wrist. If I do this it's super obvious, even before taking a breath in most cases, because the pressure will be far below 3000 psi and will drop precipitously as you...
Yeah, nothing wrong with starting by doing just macro. It's easier in terms of settings, and less dependent on things like strobes and ambient light or visibility. I had both when I first started, but brought my macro lens on probably 90% of my dives.
Congrats on the new camera and housing.
I shoot an R5 with Ikelite and have used them for years. Ikelite generally does a good job at testing the combinations they list in their port charts, so they will work. As with any wide rectilinear lens you can expect better corner sharpness with a...
Yeah I get it. There are many problems with **** divers destroying reefs and harassing animals, and what you guys are talking about is a long ways down the list if that's the scope of it.
I suppose I just take a harder line on it all, given the increasing problems we're seeing now that...
Zeagle Flathead 7 (F7) Regulator Set (Yoke) - SOLD
Zeagle Flathead 7 First Stage (sealed)
Zeagle Flathead 7 Second Stage (w/ new hose)
Zeagle ZX Octo (w/ new hose)
I purchased new in 2009, last dove in 2024, works fine. Should be serviced by buyer as with any second hand regulator. Last...
Of course the airline won't cover that much. I have my own insurance on it.
There is no physical way for me to carry on all my camera gear, housings, ports, and strobes safely and within carry-on weight allotments which are extremely restrictive for overseas travel especially (often like 15lb...
Giving images like these exposure them only encourages others to engage in similar unethical behavior for the sake of instagram clout, contests, or whatever. Everyone who does this seems to selfishly think "oh it's no big deal it's just me moving one nudi for a shot every now and then"...
Can confirm, I have a Teric and recently did the same thing. Went and renumbered my Shearwater Cloud dives (which started at #1) adding the couple hundred dives I'd done previously on an old computer I can't import from. Then you can go into the dive log on the Teric, click on settings, and...
No it's not 100% on the diver, both the diver and the operator have some combination of the responsibility/accountability here. Yes all divers should have that attitude that it's all on them as it promotes safety and self-reliance, but operators are also responsible for conducting their...
Please don't touch or manipulate wildlife. You can get plenty of great photos without doing the first thing you should be taught not to do after getting certified.
