Yep but certain peices of gear really get people in a boil - split fins, AirII's and bungeed wings come to mind. No one has a really strong opinion on Aqualung regulators for example.. you won't see anyone chime in telling you that it's going to kill you

    Furthuring my diving education

Yep, the amazing thing is that you breath nitrox the same way you breath air.. inhale and then exhale; repeat as needed.

Low Vis & Bad Experience at Florida Spring

From what I've heard from people taking TDI advanced wreck (not to be confused with the PADI wreck diving specialty) cavern training is more extensive with regards to anti-siliting techniques and my guess would be line work as well. This is because there is so much more to cover in wreck diving...

Well, I simply don't like AI computers that is a very good deal for one. Also, be warned, many people have some very strong feeling about Cochrans but if you didn't like it, I'd bet you could turn it around on Ebay for quite a bit more.

    Minimum Nitrox age

I don't have the tables in front of me either but repeditive dives at 60' would really benefit from 36.

    Are BC dumps really needed?

I don't know about jacket BC's but on a wing, the left rear dump is designed to be used almost exclusively except when dumping air on the surface.

We need to pull it off the camera then we'll throw it on google video or something. It'll be a few days.

Didn't have to use my name there... would have preferred being an anonymous object lesson :) Not a dive I'm particularly proud of.

Low Vis & Bad Experience at Florida Spring

Very good story. I'm glad you found your way out. I know there have been several hundred cases in Florida's springs when an OW diver didn't. One thing I read that raised a red flag: You should never be entering a cavern regardless of viz as viz can change. I've never dived Morrison but...

To those considering an OW class...

Besides finding a mentor or taking fundies another option would be to fly Thalassamania out to you and he'll fix you up. Whatever you do, don't go back to the same LDS that caused the problem to begin with.

    Minimum Nitrox age

Leftovers from the "nitrox is voodoo" era. It sounds like 12 yo's can get a nitrox card (from IANTD) if they are JOW certified. http://www.recntec.com/diveshop/sport_diving_courses/iantd_recreational_courses/

How do you feel about PADI bashing on this thread??

Wouldn't raising the standards make the teaching more thorough? In fact, isn't that the only way? Of course. But shouldn't the minimal guidelines and those instructors who teach to them make a diver who isn't a danger to himself and everyone/thing around him? Couldn't you have made this...

    P-valve tips

This is what I've learned from my use of p-valves: 1) Rochester Widebands *never* blow off. 2) After several days of diving, the glue tends to build up and you can lose skin taking the catheters off. Scrub *well* after removing it and the next one will be much easier. If you're enjoying the...
