1. I dive annually with a friend who uses an Oceanic computer. She does not dive in between those trips. Every trip begins with her staring at the manual trying to figure out how to set the nitrox, even though she has owned the computer for a decade. If she were to ask me to do...
I dive in Florida every winter. I have never heard of a shop there (or anywhere) requiring a deep diver certification rather than just an AOW. The contention made in this thread was whether a specific Florida dive show would accept a Deep Diver rather than an AOW, and I confirmed that the shop...
Are you saying that the GF system he created is accurate for technical diving but not accurate for NDL diving? Please explain how this would make one iota of difference?
The question was whether or not the number of professionals working with the students met standards. I was simply pointing out that people assisting a class might be instructors rather than assistant instructors or divemasters, which changes the required ratios.
Your ludicrous assertion that...
It would be very hard for someone who is not truly aware of the credentials of each diver to be able to evaluate any of this. The dive shop I worked for had a situation for several years in which everyone who assisted an OW class (yes, usually in poor visibility) was actually an instructor.
Oh, I certainly know that. I have replied to that error at length. See post #196 for my last post on that topic. At least he is not still repeating that misinformation.
Nope. It applies to the entire Buhlmann algorithm. It was used early on by tech divers. So what? What difference does this make?
Recreational divers do not have to understand GFs to use them. All they have to do is pick one of three levels for their conservative setting, exactly the way it is...
Dive Four A
• Plan and perform an actual wreck penetration under the
direct supervision of a Teaching status PADI Instructor:
• Determining air supply and penetration limits.
• Swimming without causing excessive silt disturbance.
• Maintaining contact with the line.
• Using a dive light while...
It is possible there was some confusion about the dive number. The wreck specialty requires 4 dives. The first of those 4 dives is also the wreck dive for the AOW certification class, and it does not need to be repeated when taking the wreck specialty. In that case, the second dive taken during...
I was on a liveaboard trip in the Caribbean, and we went to a shallow dive site used by a large instructor training operation. It both trains instructors and certifies students. I saw a class in progress and drifted over to watch. It was outstanding. I was highly impressed.
In my call, the person answering the phone had to check to get the official response and called me back an hour later.
The DM on the boat is not really the decision maker. If you are doing a dive that requires AOW, the check happens in the office. Anyone allowed on the boat has been cleared.
Can you identify them? I don't do shark dives very often, but I have done them, and I have done alternative dives while diving with dive operations are dong them with other divers. As I wrote earlier, I have never seen this, and I am curious about the specific operations with that policy.
I don't have an opinion on how you lost that much air that quickly, but I can give you some information that may help your overall understanding of the situation as a whole
When we say a tank is out of air, it is not really out of air. In order for you to breathe air during a dive, the air must...
In Cozumel, at least, the technical dive guides are certified DMs who are also certified as technical divers. It is similar to the DMs who lead cavern and cave dives in the Yucatan--they must be cave certified.
