Do you wear a snorkel while boat diving?

I like having the choice of swimming face down with a snorkle. Also sometimes when I'm waiting for people to get in the water and I don't feel like filling my BC and will just float with my snorkle.

Capturing and editing on external hard drive

I edit using Premier on my desk top. It is very buggy. Crashing all the time and fragmenting my hard drive. If you are really serious I would consider Final Cut Pro and a Mac system. That said I am still a PC user and I do edit on my system. I finally installed a “Raided” hard drive into my...

    am I being too cautious?

After I got certified most of my dives were shallower then 50’. There is a lot to see and your air lasts longer. If you are not comfortable diving below 60’ don’t. Find a buddy who likes to go slow. Do your deeper dives with and instructor. Your diving deeper shouldn’t come from a need to...

    Diving in Thailand

You guys seem to be pushing me away from Krabe and Phuket. Why is visablity bad in July or is it a Tsunami or a political stability issue?

Big Island topside w/ 14 yr old. Must-sees and must-dos?

Amazingly Long Answer This is based on a stay at the Mauna Kea. Not necessarily recommended. THE MAUNA KEA HOTEL Grandpa and Grandma stay at the Mauna Kea. “Gee is hasn’t changed since Jackie Kennedy stayed here.” The Mauna Kea is very stuff and stuck in the 60’s. But a couple of...

    PADI vs NAUI

I hope that doesn't mean I'm and "old" member. Suppose some one asks a question that I have read a goos thread on and posted. I can get back to that thread by just looking at my old post. How can I easily direct them to that specific thread?

    Customize your dive logs

I just got a great e-mail from dive-log.com. Using their site you can create your own personalized dive log pages. You choose from 40 categories and put them on a dive page in your order. It’s fun to go to their site and just play. I’ve been using their standard pages and they are great...

    Movies that involved Scuba Diving....

This is a really cool find!!! Found a great site for diving movies. Apparently “Diver Magazine” runs or ran a section called “Bubble and Blood”. Sort of a puzzle section. They show a picture from the film and a description and you gotta guess what the movie is. Some of them are very...

    split level photography

If you are really serious about do split shots you might look into a domed port. A domed port eliminates the magnification element of the water. Gives you wider shots and there is no distortion above and below the water. I think most split shots are shot this way. Using the stitching...

    Diving in Subic Bay Philippines

Subic has changed so much since it became an economic zone. It’s now pretty modern. While there I recommend you check out Magellan’s Galleon Museum. It’s a fun restaurant right on the bay. It’s run by a SCUBA diver and has a great museum of artifacts pulled out of the P.I.. Cool ancient...

GA Kayakers found dead in N. FLORIDA?

It just shows how simple fun adventures can quickly become dangerous and how important it is to follow safety procedures. Does any one know the water temperature where they died? My guess would be around 65 degrees. With out a wet suit and unable to get back in a kayak their chances for...

    Panoramic option with 5060s

The lines and arrows you are seeing may be framing guidelines. Many cameras that take “Landscape” mode photos often just crop your original shot so there is much less top and bottom making it appear wider. The arrows, if they seem to be defining lower top and higher bottom, are doing just...

    Kayak Diving

Diving off of a Kayak rocks. You can hit multiple cool shallow dive spots on one dive. You don’t waste energy and time getting to your spot. It turns a beach dive into a boat dive. But, be sure you have enough line and a good anchor. Stay pretty close to your Kayak. Really make sure your...

    Info On Caicos

Grand Turk is really fun. Great wall diving a 7 minute boat ride from Oasis. Not much else to do but dive. Gibb’s Cay trip is fun but really a picnic experience. The Osprey hotel has been a great place to stay. Say hi to Jenny for me. “Water’s Edge” is a good place to eat and drink and...

    Luggage size

Questions for all of you SoCal Vets

If I am weighted perfectly for Casino I need 2 extra pounds to dive Malaga cove. I just spend more time shallower and the lack of compression makes me pretty darn buoyant. Also it takes about 2 pounds of lead to sink 10 pounds of fat. So if you dropped 20 pounds you’d carry 4 pounds less weight.
