Lots of lights/etc use additional sealent around the glands and epoxy or similar where the wires come in. Its to prevent water from coming in if the outer sheathing is compromised.

Were there multiple different versions/brightnesses of the light monkey 32w vf head? I know the original non-focusable 32w had a 4000 and 8000+ versions I'm not sure about the vf head.
