    Back up dive computer

Over winter the cold actually killed the battery in my dive computer which was a bit annoying. Considered setting myself up with two computers but figured if the cold could kill one it could kill two so I now have a watch and analog depth gauge and a single computer. I use the analog gauges...

Personal experiences of DCS - poll

One of the guys I dive with had a mild hit after being invited to dive with the navy back in the 60's or so. Apparently they told him the bests thing to do was to go up and down really fast repeatedly :( Apart from that nobody in the dive club im in has ever had a DCS hit in 48 years of diving...

    Using a Horse collar BC

I dive a horse collar alot, It has a few advantages and disadvantages mainly depending on what you want it to do. Its good for on the surface since it tends to put you on your back rather than putting you on your front which most modern bc's will do. I also like the lightness of it all compared...

    regs for Maritime Canada diving?

Also if you end up getting a BC with integrated weights make sure you check what capacity the pouches are. In the last year 3 of the guys in my club have lost weight pouches from integrated weight systems by overfilling them :( Also if diving in a drysuit make sure your BC has enough lift to...

    Free flow at depth

I begin to suspect it may be icing after all :( I dive a twin hose so I didn't expect to have problems with icing since ive dived in much colder temperatures than this without problems. We actually remarked that it was rather mild getting changed today :D My IP looks fine and the lever in the DV...

    Free flow at depth

I was out diving earlier today and our group had some rather strange behaviour from our regs. Basically my regulator breathed perfectly on the surface. At about 2 meters I took a breath and my reg started to free flow slightly. I took another breath and it began to free flow even more. I...

What attracts divers most for diving?

For me its the exploration and adventure. I used to imagine floating around weightless on an alien landscape exploring new frontiers and finding weird and wonderful things. Nowadays I can do it for real by driving over to the sea and jumping in :D

    Wetsuit Opinions

    insta buddy nightmares

I remember being asked to lead a couple of divers on a dive who came out with my dive club as guests. I took them in and the water was pitch black and only about half a meter vis. I instructed them to stay off my left shoulder and not to get more than an arms length apart from me or each other...

Have you had to call off a dive?

Ive had to call off a few dives due to having a cold. Also called off one dive when we arrived at a site in our little rhib and discovered 30ft swells :D

How to tell if Mask is rated for Scuba Diving?

So long as it has tempered glass, an enclosed nose and allows you to pinch your nose if necessary for equalising it should be suitable for SCUBA diving. The quality and design of your mask are mainly down to personal preference and how much money you want to spend.

crazy about diving or just crazy?

D*mn straight, some of my best dives have been spent in freezing conditions. Ive been known to spend 3 hours in the water diving off a small RHIB in 43f water in a 7mm semi dry with air temperatures of 17f. I like to think of myself as an enthusiast, others seem to think of me as insane ever...

Do you hear yourself off gas

The crunching or crackling sound will be your eustachian tubes opening up, they are the tubes that run from the back of your throat to your ears. When you ascend the air in your ears expands and goes out of those tubes, otherwise your eardrum would burst! I hear the crunching noise all the time...

    Why do YOU love SB?

I like it because every time I post something it usually gets shot down in flames. Interacting with divers in a totally different part of the world to me and generally trained in a very different way forces me to defend just about everything I post. "debating" with various scubaboard members has...

    Not servicing my gear EVER!

I hear ya there, one of the guys in my club years ago serviced his own posiden cyklon's and after rebuilding them discovered he had a part left over. He eventually figured out where the piece went in the first stage and proceeded to dive the regs for a year or so before someone else told him...

    snorkel, what’s it good for?

My buddy was swimming on their front with their reg in. When they ran out of air they orally inflated their BC and swam on their back. This kept their head above the waves and stopped them getting swamped. Ive found in my suit swimming on my back I have to rotate my entire body as I cant turn my...

    snorkel, what’s it good for?

I carry one strapped to my mask, I generally use it every dive. Generally ill start out on the snorkel, switch to my reg, do the dive then switch back to my snorkel on the surface. I find the snorkel to be one of those things that I would rather have and not need than need and not have. Ive...
