Generally ill either dive with another guy who has a camera or ill just not use my camera unless I see something really good. It probably helps taht I just dive with a compact and sometimes a strobe arm so I can carry around my camera not using it without it being a pain.
On the rare occasion...
I know the feeling, you start thinking back and wondering if things where really as bad as you thought. You look back at your log entry for the dive and wonder if what you wrote was really what happened or if you just perceived things wrong in the heat of the moment. You look back on the dive...
All my boat diving is inshore from a Rhib so it sits on top of my bubbles and is generally only a few feet away when i surface. We carry a marker buoy on a reel in case the weather is choppy and could make it hard to see the divers bubbles but its quite rare we need it.
I always have my torch...
As my instructor always told me "nice guys will get you killed, its the bastards who will keep you alive". A nice guy will carry on a dive even if he thinks he should abort because he dosent want to ruin the dive. A bastard will totally disregard all the planning and effort you had to do to go...
you know these big oval masks:
It turns out you can put them on upsideown and they will still seal and be watertight, though its kinda hard to pinch your nose with it like that....nuf said ;)
I find having my octopus running under my left arm and secured to my right hip works fine for me. I don't intend to go into any enclosed spaces so this isnt a concern and my octo hose is long enough that i can comfortably have a diver next to me on it without us being uncomfortably restricted...
I dive a twin hose with modern equipment, Ive found vintage dive literature is mostly all still relevant even when diving modern equipment. The stuff about regulator positioning, clearing techniques e.t.c is something you should read up on if diving a twin hose even with modern equipment. Also...
I had a couple of failures over the winter due to the cold.
Firstly had my 2nd stage freeze up and free flow due to the intake hose being full of fresh water from me dismantling it underwater in the pool a few days earlier. (This is a twin hose in case you are wondering). I was only in about...
I went with a ScotSAC club because it was close to me, I find the level of instruction varies from club to club but overall is quite high. The club im in has never had anyone in the chamber or otherwise seriously injured in 50 years.
Im surprised no BSAC or CMAS on the poll :D
PROS:
Excellent people to meet
You now have an extra 80% of the world you can explore
You can see things few other humans have ever seen
Experience weightlessness without having to go into space
Always have something new to learn
When diving is good, it is very very good
CONS:
Some right *-ers...
Try having a look here: Scuba Diving Jargon Buster | Scuba Diving Glossary | C-Divers | Central Scotland Dive Club
Also, A "wall" is basically an underwater cliff and "water column" generally refers to a vertical section of water
EDIT: A regulator commonly refers to your primary demand...
Ive had people runaway going up and going down. Generally I keep within arms length of whoever im with with so i can grab them in a hurry if anything goes wrong, though if im diving in a threesome it can be difficult.
For a diver dropping down, i just go head down and swim like the blazes till...
You find after a while of diving tables that you can remember the no stop times for the various depths. I had to be able to recite the no stop times from 30 meters to 20 meters and do repetitive dive calculations in my head without any references to get certified which was a pain at first but...
I just use dive tables.
People should use whatever methods and technology results in them not getting bent, i use a watch and depth gauge and don't get bent, so thats fine. Other people use dive computers and don't get bent, thats also fine :D
I usually contact my clubs diving officer to let him know what our plans are then i give him a call once im out the water, But that's the rules I have to inform him.
Sometimes I also phone the coastguard, let them know i have x amount of divers going in at site x and tell them the registration...
Yeah, go to the nearest fuel station that has those plastic gloves you can wear and stick a bunch of them in your car.
They make gloves slide on great and also provide extra warmth too!
