What should I use to keep my integrated air/inflator over my chest?

Shock cord works great, I used to use a piece of elastic on my left shoulder to hold my spg hose and stop it from slipping behind me, then i had one of these: On my main cummerbund so i could stop the console from dangling. This allowed me to have the hose securely fastened to my body and i...

    Creepy things found diving

I was at a site renowned for people dumping bodies and such there since it was very remote but only an hour or so away form a major city, I sometimes encountered the police divers on the site doing sweeps. Swimming along in the pitch black in very low vis, i was only able to see what was in my...

How much cushion do you leave..

Ill generally dive up to my time if that is the limiting factor, though I use tables so there is a certain amount of "cushion" built in anyway since the tables assume i am on a square profile when i pretty much never am.

Lets tell the less experienced what our OWC was like..... ( if you remember)

I did my OW in Scotland, it was all either sea work in a drysuit or class work. I dont recall going into a swimming pool for any of it. It ran over 3 days, usually an hour of class then a dive in the morning, then another class and another dive in the afternoon. Oddly enough that was probably...

SMBs. How many, what colors, and why?

Ive used an orange SMB, once or twice, though it really is a SMB not a DSMB, its basically a standard orange bouy connected to a Reel, if im worried about the boat being able to follow my bubbles in a rough sea ill tow it along just to make sure i don't come up to find myself lost at sea. Ive...

    Real-life Equipment Failures

I had a failure of my backup air-source this weekend, my snorkel snapped in half!

Are you wearing snorkel while SCUBA diving?

I have one strapped to my mask, I generally don't notice its there till I need it so I always wear it. The few times ive had to use it I have been VERY glad of it :D

Newbie Diver Mistakes-Don't do what I did

Thats what i use and it works great, I also added a small loop of bungee which allows my to strap my camera tight against my body which is quite useful to stop it catching on anything.

Aga Mk2 full face mask buddy breathing

Ive tried buddy breathing with a full face mask but not an aga unfortunately, i found the really important thing was to get the mask straps (the mask i tried it with had a 5 point strap across the back same as the aga) pulled over the top of the mask and round to the front so they do not get in...

How to use a diver watch bezel like a Rolex submariner????

I use one of these cheap apex watches: If my watch looked like that on a dive i would know i had been in for about 50 minutes. It has dots all the way round so i just set it to match the minute hand at the start of the dive then I just see what number the minute hand is pointing to on the...

    Real-life Equipment Failures

Not so much a mechanical failure but more a phyisics failure. Going out diving with my twin hose and i didn't have my usual tanks so i rented some. The tanks they gave me where massive and where dumpy meaning they stuck way out on my back. Trying to breathe from the twin hose was like trying to...

    Anyone tried these new fins?

C'mon no serious diver would ever wear those fins, they aren't black!

for all the cold water drysuit divers out there!! how much weight do u carry??

With my Norther Diver cortex membrane suit and a Wheezle extreme under-suit I use 32lbs. Since i usually cant be bothered carrying all that weight i usually dive my 7mm semi dry which takes 8lbs with a 12 litre tank and 12lbs with a 15. Im quite a big guy with a fair bit of in built "bioprene"...

Were you taught dive planning using tables or computers?

I did PADI OW in 2007 and learnt to use the PADI tables, computers where mentioned very briefly. That was it as far as dive planing went. I then joined ScotSAC in 2008 and had to learn the RNPL tables and be able to give the no stop times, required decompression stops e.t.c from memory. I also...

Preferred redundant buoyancy when diving wet?

I find the old "weight yourself so your neutral at your target depth and pick up a rock on your way up" trick works well, though if your on a site without any rocks yer kinda scuppered! Ive found its handy to go in a swimming pool wearing the kit and just trunks and the amount of weight i wear...

Anyone here ever suffers decompression illness?

Its always handy to hang around a bit in the shallows just to give you a bit of a safety buffer. Hence the name "Safety stop", its not required but it does give you a bit of a safety margin. I generally don't bother but then my no-stop times tend to be alot less than most peoples since im...

confined water / club pool sessions

Over the winter i do pool training once a week. I find it very useful for getting skills absolutely perfected to the point you can do them in any situation at all and by training less experienced divers alot of the skills become second nature. Its also good for learning new skills like search...

How deep is considered a dive

Any time im in open water on the kit i log it as a dive. My logbook isn't just for recording dives for qualifications, it also serves as a good source of info for future dives so its handy to log everything :D

Diving in UK for first time.

You'll find diving in a drysuit you will have alot more momentum with your movement and bouyancy than in a wetsuit, it takes a bit of getting used to but once you do its like second nature :D Where about's in England are you diving? We have some extremely good dive sites in the UK.

    Strange Experience

If you dont want to hear the answer i would skip these next few paragraphs if i where you :D We had one guy who unknown to us forgot his weight-belt so stuffed his wetsuit full of lead. To make matters worse he had been diving a drysuit but was diving a wetsuit for this dive and didn't bother...
