Three strikes and you're out... I've now written off PADI

There's no evidence Mike Nelson certified divers. At the time Sea Hunt was made, it was common for experienced divers to teach others to dive. They often had no affiliation with any agency, those that issued cards, issued their own home made cards. Few agencies existed.

Feds ends funding for New Jersey's artificial reefs

Artificial reefs are wonderful to have, but they should be privately funded.

    Who carries a Safety Tube?

It could have been something new, then I would have been sitting with an invalid assumption. It's prudent to ask when you don't know. Maybe it is something new.... From the links provided by halemanō:

    Who carries a Safety Tube?

Damned little. I know the terms "safety sausage" and "surface marker buoy (SMB)," but I've never heard of a "safety tube."

    PADI vs. NAUI

Maybe, but most divers think their instructor was excellent, even when the instructor is really inadequate. Interview him to be sure. Print out the questions in the link I provided and find out how comprehensive a course he teaches.

    What is a "safety tube?"

    PADI vs. NAUI

You'll be able to dive with either of those cards or a host of others. I think everyone should try to find the most comprehensive approach to teaching diving in their area. I have some advice for you in the first post of this thread. If you'll tell me what part of Florida you call home, I...

Wondering about the old Farmer Johns

Farmer johns don't have beaver tails. Beaver tails are on the jacket that goes over the farmer john.

    PADI Junior Open Water Diver

I disagree. PADI (or any other agency) has no authority to make rules for anyone other than their members (Instructors, Assistant Instructors and Dive Masters). Their members must follow those rules to remain members in good standing. To gain a PADI certification, you must follow the rules...

The dumbest post in SB history

Well, that tells me it's a case of garbage in, garbage out. A bite by a Bull Shark would slice through a hippo's skin like a hot knife through butter.

    Scubapro Jet Fins

You kick up the bottom wearing Jets. No fin kicks up the bottom. Fins are merely tools. In my opinion Jet Fins are the best tools available. Your opinion differs. Unless there's nothing to stir up, it is physically impossible to use a regular flutter kick with any fin an inch above the...

The dumbest post in SB history

Like when Marciano beat Ali in 1967. They never actually fought and there's no way to know who would really have won.

What type of fins do use and what do you like about them?

Scubapro Jet Fins with original rubber straps. Combined with my boots, they are neutrally buoyant in sea water. They have power and fine control. Absolutely the best fins I've ever tried. I use Duck Feet when diving vintage, they are almost as good as Jets.

They actually put them together? Where are the details?

    Cert Numbers

Some agencies use numbers, others do not. It makes absolutely no difference.

    Justifying solo diving to others

Don't justify it. Solo diving is a choice, hopefully an informed choice. It is your choice, if you have a family, they should have input in that choice. Don't discuss it with other people unless they have a real (family) interest in such a choice or they are experienced solo divers from whom...

Three strikes and you're out... I've now written off PADI

It will not come as a surprise that I'm not a fan of PADI. Reading your original post, I only saw one thing that could reflect directly on PADI. PADI doesn't advocate ignoring the planned depth of dives, drinking after diving, drinking while diving, nor being rude to other divers. If they...

    Scubapro Jetfins

I wear a size 9, so our feet are close to the same size, but mine are slightly larger. I wear L with regular size boots, and XL with thick soles. There is a big difference in paddle size between L and XL, but I can tell no difference in how they move me through the water. Having used...

    Scubapro Jetfins

Jets are too heavy, so use the lighter Slipstreams, but be sure to weight them down with metal straps? My Jets (no spring straps) with my boots inserted are neutrally buoyant. What is the buoyancy of Slipstreams with spring straps and boots inserted?
