    Divers North-Northwest-West of Ft. Worth

I live in Kyle, and some of our founders are in Austin. Anytime we go out, we'll let y'all know. Sometimes we'll be diving, other times, the club will be putting on "Two Week Tweaks", which is where every two weeks, we schedule a paid event where 2-4 people can come and get a short discussion...

    Divers North-Northwest-West of Ft. Worth

A little late to the thread, and a little ways south of you guys, but we are a small group in central TX attempting to start a similar thing. We are the Lone Star Underwater Explorers, a group dedicated to the ideals of conservation, exploration and education. We have just received our...

    Feb 2012 Mammoth Lake

Our crew is heading down there April 28-29. It's a weekend, but I'm sure something could be worked out.

    Oled?

Is Scubapro looking into OLED technology for their computers/timers? I dive a Tec2G and absolutely LOVE it. Great piece of kit. However, I would love it more if it had an OLED display. I personally would love to see a Tec2G, (I guess just the "2G" now), exactly as it is; same functionality...

Exuma Sound in Jan: Suit needed?

I'm leaving for a trip to the Exuma sound on the Aquacat next week. Their website says the water is 72-74* and there is 5 dives a day. It's a weeklong trip. I'm not a cold-water wuss, but I like to be comfortable. 72-74 is drysuit water to me, especially for repeated or long exposures...

DUI FLX Extreme vs Waterproof D7 Pro

No experience with the Waterproof, but to (sorta) echo the poster above, I'm currently in a TLS, (love it and no leaks), but I cannot wait to get into an FLX. Planning on getting one in 2012.

    Scubapro G250V vs S600?

Another thing is that the G250 has slightly better case fault geometry compared to the S600, which is why the service manual says you can adjust the G250 down to 1.0" of water "cracking pressure", and the S600 to 1.1". That said, I think the "cracking pressure" thing is overdone a little bit...

    What's with sidemount?

(DISCLAIMER: I do not sidemount dive, yet.) I agree with the above. I've got nothing against or for sidemount diving, and I see it as a tool. However, I think it breaks down into a few groups: 1. People with a valid need for it. (Due to environmental restrictions and/or bad back or joints.)...

Piston vs Diaphragm OR MK25 vs MK17

Just haven't gotten around to switching my short-hose over. I'm keeping rubber for the longhose and HP hoses, but I'll go miflex for the short hoses, since they get all bendy.

Piston vs Diaphragm OR MK25 vs MK17

Here are a few pics of my rig in the car about to go dive. I've turned the top of the regulators outward for head clearance when in trim. It doesn't affect valve drills and I've never confused a reg for a knob. The ONLY thing I don't like, and I freely admit this, is the angle of the HP port...

Piston vs Diaphragm OR MK25 vs MK17

I'm a diaphragm guy, so I might be biased. That said, the Mk25 is a good reg, but the Mk17 is a better reg. Better in cold water Better in contaminated/crappy water Better hose routing, singles or doubles If it'll do cold and murky, it can do warm and clear. The inverse isn't always true...

Question: Any opinions on the Apeks or the SiTech automatic drysuit exhaust valves

I was advised in a similar manner, (AFTER I bought my suit). My suit has the lo-profile sitech valves and I have no issues. I was told that the earlier valves all leaked like sieves, but that they were changed and now DUI, (and others), assure everyone they are perfected. Not quite. They...

    Rinsing

Since 99% of my diving is in fresh water, no rinsing. If in SW, then I rinse daily. This is rare. If doing pool training, which is pretty much 4-5 days a week, I rinse if I happen to use my "nice stuff". My typical pool rig is "beater gear", which gets rinsed sometimes, but not all the time.

    Which SMB?

^ See above. I use the 3.3', (1m for you ROW weirdos), and love it. Perfect for local conditions, moderate seas and also drilling. If I dove a lot in high seas, I might consider the 4.5', but I think anything past that is silly. If the seas are so bad as to require a 6' or longer SMB to be...

Canister light - Where do you mount yours and how?

Me too. Hold it in place with a second SS buckle.

When do you need con ed?

I'm hesitant to post about this topic, (to the point that I wrote, deleted and re-wrote it three times now), because I'm a recently-Fundified diver, (March), and there seems to be a Scubaboard Meme about "DIR Divers that do nothing but drill, drill, drill" and (unfortunately, I guess) myself and...

    San Antonio

I would recommend Sea World in San Antonio as well, mostly because it's the last Sea World with a waterski show and it's awesome. Amazing skiers and if you like watersports, it's a good one to catch.

    Din vs. Yoke

DIN, DIN and more DIN. However, I have converters for when I travel and encounter yoke valves.
