Thanks. I went to the Hollis website and printed out the manual. I wanted the Solo but went with the Switchback because that's what was in stock. I had asked the shop to order a Solo and some other stuff for me but they screwed up so I was stuck. Now that my trip is over I have the freedom to be...
A movie!? Wow! :)
It sounds like I need to have a talk with my local Hollis dealer. It's probably just an honest mistake. I want to switch out the harness anyway. I got the Switchback but I really want the Solo. As for the bolts, it looks like I wasn't charged but I still won't use them...
So what you're saying is my LDS sold me parts, bolts and crotch strap, that should have been included? Because I paid about $50 extra for my Dive Rite crotch strap, which I despise, and the wrong bolts.

A buddy of mine has me pretty much convinced to go for my GUE Fundamentals certification within the next year. One of the benefits my buddy cited is that the cost of GUE Fundamentals would be less than the total cost of equivalent certifications from agencies like PADI. I also read on the GUE...
It being my first salt water and wreck dive my mind was not really on the fish. I was more "Holy crap! There's a big honking ship down here!" than "Where'd all the fish go?" My dive buddy and I did find a spear from a gun under the bow though.
I just got back from the Keys. The only sharks I saw were nurse. I did hear a couple of DM's talking about two Bull sharks camping on the Duane.

Having a car in Key West falls into the "throwing money away" category as well. You'll blow a minim of $30 a day on parking and gas. That's just throwing good dive money overboard.

I opted for a pair of Dive Rite bands for this very reason. Plus the rubber pad achieves a better grip on the tank. It takes a touch longer to rig the Dive Rite bands but it sure is worth it.
Now that I know what to expect I would say the wear is probably not a issue except around the bolts. I will try to get some photos for you anyway. It looks like my LDS sold me the bolts for the weight pockets instead of the ones for the backplate. Once I saw the grooves the bolts were creating...
I just got back from Key West and used SouthPoint. Awesome crew. Very Professional. I stayed in the La Concha on Duval and had no problem humping my gear on foot.

I have tried bungie and haven't been happy with the results. The sausage is either too difficult to release or is in danger of coming loose. I used the DAN model which is a bit of a beast compared with others.
I just did 7 salt water dives in 5 days with my brand new Hollis aluminum backplate and the black coating is already coming off in spots. Some of the wear is around the bolts, the bands, and the webbing. But some of it appears to be just from rolling around in my dive bag. How worried should I...
