    Opinions on Bare XCD2 drysuit

XCD2 is popular with instructors....Me, I like back entry, so CD4. try http://www.oceansports.ca for a deal on Bare suits. They are a volume dealer, and may be able to work a deal.

    Whites Dry Suit

Hope everything works out for you. I had a white's as my first suit. It leaked from dive 10. They patched and patched, but it still leaked. Finally, they thought I was a crank, and no more CS. I retired it and bought a DUI vulcanized. Nice. Did 1000 dives on it before ripping the...

    Force Fin?

I've had FF's for years. I have lots of them The pros are my faves. I have a pair of Extras with pods, but they are like the noodleboard conventional fins...make my ankles tired. As for making the most of them....not an issue. They respond to just about any method of kicking, from bicycle...

    BC Reliability Question For Everyone:

Didn't happen to me, but I saw a Sherwood Shadow blow a seam on the surface. Guy looked surprised, popped his reg in his mouth, and dropped his weightbelt. Sherwood warranty sent him BCD of his choice. No explanation as to why seam let go. AND...Saw a guy intentionally rupture one of...

    NX2000 vs. ??

Halloo, I am being finagled to teach once again, and the store I work for has a policy of instructors using gear we sell. Fair enough. However, that rules out my trusty OMS backplate and/or IQ pack. I need to buy a BCD for teaching...I'm in the Pacific NW, coldwater, drysuit. I would...

    MR12 Epos

Your chain is being yanked. Your lds is on lsd. He's pissed 'cause you bought online. Whatever the problem; Zeagle is a great BCD, he's just got an issue with weight integration. Your Mares is the one we use in rentals, and they are great with regular service after 100's of...

    Apeks Qs

Awesome questions, good answers There is no reason not to buy the atx 200...except for price. The DS4 is the best value in a 1st stage. Don't be fooled by the small size of the 200, it's heavy... I prefer the DS4 for the turret...esp for some technical diving with sidemounts. But if...

should i still use my conshelf se2??

Keep those conshelfs. They've been a great design for decades, and most of the service parts are in common with the Titan. The only thing that kills a Conshelf is a warped or crushed main body....or, cracks in the 2nd stage housing where the hose threads are.

    mixing 1st and 2nd stages

Aha! And that's the drawback of shims...But I like the performance of a piston better. My shop does mostly USD and Mares...so dialling the IP in is easy and good. Also good for detuning ips for extremely cold water happy bubbling!

    mixing 1st and 2nd stages

Stone, thanx for the welcome. The idea with the mix and match is the different specs for different manufacturers. For instance, if I tried a sherwood 2nd (recommended 125-135 psi for most of the range) with an apeks first (which everyone here loves) then I'd have to detune the apeks to the...

    Apeks Owners Primary Reg....

TX 100 is goin' to my spares (replacing my venerable D400 Mk10) and my atx200 should be here next week!

    Poll -- easiest to service

I can't say what is easiest. I mean, all have their ups and downs. I've serviced so many USD conshelfs, now that irritating spring stack filter thing is quick and easy. Sherwoods are simple, but tuning IP is rough with the shims in the old ones. Dacor is never easy...too many orings...

Apeks ATX50 with Dacor Viper octo

Not a good idea. The intermediate pressure of the Apeks is higher than most kit. The Dacor is manufactured for an IP of around 125 psi. I think it would work ok on the bench, but your dacor octo would freeflow at depth.

    octopus vs. regulator

The tech who put "slack" in the arm should (IMHO) be, um, removed. The spring tension is the main method of tuning many regs, and most octos. If the arm feels "soft," then a qualified tech should adjust it. Merely slacking it makes an annoying clicking sound, and limits the airflow in some...

    mixing 1st and 2nd stages

No problem "mixing and matching," but for best performance, have a certified tech go over the reg. The intermediate pressure on the 1st stage should be tuned for optimum performance in the second stage. Beware of putting cheapie cheap octos on high performance 1st/2nd combos. Tuning the octo...

Apeks ATX200, ScubaPro M25 S600 or IDI SeaAir Titanium - which one

You've hit on two beaut regs. From a technician's point of view, I prefer the Apeks. Why? It's easier and quicker for your service tech (that's me) to overhaul. I've owned scubapros for years, and they are fantastic breathing regs once they are set up. But set up is finicky. Buy the...
