It depends on the type of sensor used. Electric will tend to be absolute, others could be either.

With the inaccuracy of SPGs, does it matter. My gauge will show 230 when the computer reads 219, I tend to rely on the lower reading for prudence.

I did experience this, but it turned out to be the gauge needle sticking as when it got to 260 bar it would jump up; I changed the gauge that fixed it.
