The Biology of the Lionfish Invasion

A few weeks ago I did a dive off the north shore of St Croix. The dive masters said that the local reef sharks either could not or would not kill a lionfish, but were quite happy to eat them once someone killed it for them. This resulted in my closest ever shark encounter when a pair of them...

Best macro site - shore dive in Grand Cayman

Macabuca, for sure. I have a friend who dives there often with a lot nicer camera than mine and she spend a lot of time in the hardpan - what most people just pass over on their way back to their surface interval. She finds all sorts of tiny critters and was kind enough to point out to me what...

New Guidelines In Turks - Sept 1

It feels like more and more countries are requiring this for entry - the Cayman Islands have said it is a conditioning of them opening. At some point I think the states or feds will need to get their act together.

New Guidelines In Turks - Sept 1

Not just the states, but some private companies offer a database, like Walmart.

Cayman possible border reopening without quarantine by April or May!

I wouldn't recommend putting ANY money into anything to do with visiting Cayman right now - while there is a plan, there are far too many variables outside of the government's control right now - things could so easily change.

Cayman possible border reopening without quarantine by April or May!

If this is an important issue for you, then write to your congress-person - it takes the time to write an email, but may help make a difference.

Wow, ok, thanks for that - I wonder who else is a member but not going to provide the cards?

Trip Report St. Croix trip report July 2021

Hah. I was on St Croix in July of this year and stayed at the condo at the Palms at Pelican Cove and dove with SCUBA! Agree on the dive op - highly recommended, although the lack of staff was causing them issues. I agree with the diving assessment, too... and about the roads. You definitely...

Cayman possible border reopening without quarantine by April or May!

State of New York just announced that they have expanded their Excelsior Pass program to include SMART Health Cards. This means that all residents of New York State should be fine, too. I'm sure other states will be following. I already signed up and got my QR code, so when Cayman opens up to...

    SL051 leaking - anyone else?

I bought the SL051 wide-angle conversion lens for my Sealife camera - it's worked well for me for a while, but yesterday during a dive I noticed some water between the two internal lenses (not between the lens and the camera body, which I cleared as per instructions). I have contacted Sealife...

Diving South Caicos? Is it any good?

So friends of ours (non-divers... I know!) have been talking about going to South Caicos and wondered if we would like to go with them. Obviously if I am heading to a warm island I want to know what options I have for diving. So, fellow divers, a few questions: How is the diving there? What...

Cayman possible border reopening without quarantine by April or May!

At some point I think the Cayman government is going to get to the point of saying "Look, we have given everybody who wants to get vaccinated the opportunity to get it. We are going to open the borders without requiring quarantine on <name a date>. Everyone who wants a shot can get it, other...

Cayman possible border reopening without quarantine by April or May!

Yup. All members of the party are going to have to be vaccinated in order to not need to quarantine. And there will be testing. I have a feeling that if and when the evidence is conclusive that the vaccines reduce transmission to acceptable levels, they will remove the testing requirements...

Cayman Will Re-Open Borders to Visitors in March 2021

Well, to all intents and purposes, if someone wants to take a vacation on the island and go SCUBA diving, the idea of sitting in quarantine for the first 2 weeks because you don't have the two vaccination shots completed probably excludes having Cayman as a destination. So to me it's not in the...

Cayman Will Re-Open Borders to Visitors in March 2021

Well, the way I read it, you can come to the island without being vaccinated post-opening up, you just have to undergo 14 days of quarantine. If you are vaccinated and have the test 72 hours before and it's negative and test negative upon arrival, then you do not have to quarantine. So nobody...

Cayman Will Re-Open Borders to Visitors in March 2021

I don't see it as saying that the tests are trustworthy enough. You are supposed to get a sample taken 72 hours before flight and have it come back as negative. There is obviously a 72 hour window where someone could become positive. The check on arrival is to try to close that window of...

4 Months in Prison for Breaking Quarantine in Cayman Islands

Compass Point vs Lighthouse Point...both excellent?

I stayed at Cobalt Coast during the Divetech days twice. It's away from other bars and restaurants, but with a car or taxi you can get there quickly. The west side gives you far more shore diving options, if you want to supplement your boat diving.

Compass Point vs Lighthouse Point...both excellent?

It would be awesome if Tukka could be in Morgan's Harbour! I love the place and the food. While you obviously won't get the same view there, if the food is available that would be wonderful.

As stated right now, no, that won't qualify you for entry.
