Our local beach dives don't sound very exciting with 5-15ft visibility and 20ft depth but thats what it is and it's good. Wish I could go back to Mexico though to continue my cave training.
I always wear at least a 3mm suit, have decent buoyancy and find the no-gloves rule idiotic. The most damage I see is from dangling octos, consols, and fins.
The buckle on the Mako belt is quick release. If you pull the free end past the buckle it springs open. It's actually the other way around, lots of people that see it want one.
No contest. Beach dives in southern California are OK at best. Great if you live there though. The dive park in Catalina beats LaJolla by miles if you have time to go.
