    Liveaboard gratuity in Thailand

I have been to Thailand 12 times, on 4 liveaboards and numerous day trips. You will probably notice a happy and reserved attitude from the Thais on board which I found to be a comfortable trip. If you have special foods that you especially like mention it and I'll bet you see them at a future...

    Koh Sumai in December

Flight prices will depend on where you are flying from. I'll guess you are flying from Bangkok (BKK) and Bangkok Air has several daily flights from Bangkok to Koh Samui and I recall them being about $100 USD R/T 3 years ago. The less expensive route is to take the overnight train from BKK to...

    Honeymooning in Phuket in April

I would suggest staying at the Kata area 3 miles South of Patong as it has great shopping and facilities but without the seedy element that has grown in Patong over the last 10 years I have been going there. Besides it is closer to the Dive boats out of Chalong bay (but all operators will pick...

    Thailand Feb-April

If you can arrange it, get on aliveaboard that goes from Phuket to Burma - a very nice trip! If not INSIST on diving Ricieulieu Rock on the border of Thailand-Burma. This time of year brings Mantas and Whale sharks

    Indonesia - Wakatobi Resort

Beware of Wakatobi - they have a nice website and extensive marketing but it is all hype. 1) The SCUBA tank air was bad quality and they don't have Nitrox, which requires much cleaner delivery systems. 2) There were only 4 dive areas, not much variety. Only one had great walls but you...

    Wakatobi Report???

Try KBR, when I went to Wakatobi in 2003 the DMs there went to Kunkung Bay Resort (KBR) for there vacation and raved about it. Beware of Wakatobi - they have a nice website and extensive marketing but it is all hype. 1) The SCUBA tank air was bad quality and they don't have Nitrox...

    PNG, Komodo or Wakatobi?

I disagree with julieparkhurst about wakatobi they have a nice website and extensive marketing but I found it to be all hype. 1) The SCUBA tank air was bad quality and they don't have Nitrox, which requires much cleaner delivery systems. 2) There were only 4 dive areas, not much variety...

    PNG, Komodo or Wakatobi?

I agree with Allison, PNG is absolutely spectacular. The Wakatobi website is very nice but overhyped and what they don't tell you is that the variety of diving, air tank quality and number of DMs is VERY limited. All in our group got digestive tract problems (runs). PNG is a bit of a flight but...

    Fiji or Caymans?

hidiver1 - Beware of Wakatobi - they have a nice website and extensive marketing but it is all hype. 1) The SCUBA tank air was bad quality and they don't have Nitrox, which requires much cleaner delivery systems. 2) There were only 4 dive areas, not much variety. One had great walls but...

Similar Alternative To Ko Tao Wanted!

Bali - did it again after a week+ in Phuket last April. 8000 baht airfare from BKK and if you bargain hard you can get accomodation, diving and food on a $50USD per day budget at the town of Lovina (north side of the island). DIving is superior to anywhere in Thailand but the people are not...

Thinking about doing my DM in Thailand (+)

I could dive Richielieu Rock all day long and still ask for more bottom time. I've entered the Kingdom of Thailand 12+ times in the last 8 years and been on 3 live aboards. Burma is the best trip, but truthfully I have no aspirations towards DM. In any case kon Thai are very polite, happy...

    Ko Lanta (Thailand) advice needed

Don't miss Hin Daeng and Him Muang (Red rock and Purple rock) and if possible insist on going there - all other diving will pale in comparison. Yeah, it is a bit of a ride to get ther, but well worth it.

    Palau liveaboard

Thanks for the link to MAML divers. Prior to them there was (and still is) Peleliu Divers and Storyboard resort, although I suspect that int the MAML webpage "mayumi hotel" is the same lady Mayumi that owns Storyboard Peleliu Divers/Storyboard Where is Zeina when you need her? She has...

    storyboard beach resort in palau

Have you emailed Mayumi at Storyboard, they give a discount for booking 5days+ in a row? (ask for it) My experience has been that 7 days in any location starts to wear on (even in paradise). No formal advanced certification is required BUT dive sites like Blue Corner can have swift currents...

    Bali Incident

Balinese are predominantly peace loving Hindus. Kind and fun loving. I have been before and after the Bali bombing and will go again, it is that nice. The Sari club bombing was very sad, but I never liked to visit that place - I have had many other opportunities to see Aussie and Euros...

    storyboard beach resort in palau

If you want to hang at Koror the best is the Palau Pacific. Keep in mind that Storyboard resort is 5-15 minutes from the dive sites that all those liveaboards and day trips go to. The day trips from Koror can take one and a half hours of seasickening choppy boat rides.

    storyboard beach resort in palau

I think your agent is not being fair, but lets get down to each of the issues: 1) Generator Power - The same as on Koror, the main Island of Palau. Ask your travel agent if Koror has Coal-Steam, Hydro-electric or nuclear power plants or if they also run on Generator power (this is a loaded...
