Closed 7/8" Dive Rite Style Manifold

As my cylinders come up for hydro I am reconfiguring some of them. I have a twinset with a 7/8" neck manifold. I am planning on replacing it with ordinary Thermo non-modular valves, and therefore can offer this extremely rare item to someone who needs it. This is an early Dive Rite pattern...

Is there a hydro requirement on bank cylinders?

This. I am in Minnesota. In Minnesota, pressure vessels (stationary or otherwise) must be inspected annually by an insurance underwriter or a professional engineer, with certain exceptions. Among the exceptions are portable cylinders that are kept in compliance with USDOT regulations. Many...

Pleasure Reef off Plantation Key, Florida

They are available for purchase at reasonable price from Frankomaps.com and are worth the money if you're exploring the Keys. Franko's map shows Crocker Reef at 24 54.20' N, 80 31.60' W, to 90' deep. There is also an NOAA map showing the locations of mooring buoys on the reef.

what do you wear under your wetsuit?

Like many, I wear a competition-style swimsuit so that I can change before and after the dive without offending anyone's sensibilities.

    Rebreather or Anesthesia machine?

I imagine they utilize anesthesia machines in places like Santa Fe or Flagstaff, where the altitude is great enough that these differences matter.

Children die playing with scuba gear left in pool - Jensen Beach, Florida

I had understood that this went off the rails because it was mandated for nitrox even if <= 40%.

Children die playing with scuba gear left in pool - Jensen Beach, Florida

The shape, color, ergonomics, and general appearance of these containers is a safety feature even though you may not realize it. No rational person will drink the contents of a laundry jug, even if they can't read the label, even in the dark, because the shape, feel, and design of the cap make...

Children die playing with scuba gear left in pool - Jensen Beach, Florida

From a safe practices standpoint, the answer is that you never boost undiluted helium into an open-circuit scuba cylinder to begin with. Leave it in the K or T it came in, vent it, blend it, give it away, give it back to your gas supplier, or purchase or rent a smaller cylinder (than a K or T)...

    Financial planning, compressor

Jim Shelden has retired from the compressor business. Portions of his service business have been taken over by Elevate Systems. I have sent equipment to Elevate Systems for repair and did not find the results to be satisfactory.

Children die playing with scuba gear left in pool - Jensen Beach, Florida

I recall reading of a similar fatality years ago where an experienced technical diver boosted leftover helium into a scuba cylinder which he labelled "100%." He suffered an unrelated orthopedic injury that kept him away from diving for many months, and when he returned to diving, he mistook his...

    for those with Steel 72s...

The problem is convincing other shops of the provenance of the information. This shop is comfortable + rating the tanks and there are several others nationwide. I assume they got the information directly from Norris while Norris was still making LP72s. Regulations say the information has to...

    Financial planning, compressor

Right, so, I played the game, had the cheap compressor, expensive lesson, now I pay for fills. Learn from my mistakes. It gives great satisfaction to be self-sufficient on fills. It's convenient. It's going to cost you somewhere in the $3500-$7,000 range to set it up with known good...

    for those with Steel 72s...

Well, I've got five of them with + stamps in the garage. I don't know where they got the REE, but I'm happy they stamp the cylinders.

    Financial planning, compressor

Get more dive cylinders. It will cost less and be less work. Figure out a convenient way to move them such as a cart or two wheeler. Find a dive shop that is convenient to get cylinders in and out of, where you don't have to carry them up the steps and down the sidewalk. I typically get a...

History of Diving Museum, FL Keys - Review?

I've been. It's interesting, worth a visit. For me, a point of sensitivity with museums is the authenticity of the items as presented. For example, the Truman "Little White House" nearby has decor, furnishings, and props that, while contemporaneous and individually genuine, were in most cases...

    for those with Steel 72s...

I use a local hydro shop that will + rate Norris and PST LP72s. I sold all my Kiddie LP72s because I can't get them + rated. The LDSs around here fill by the book and so I get 2450. That's fine. If I want to dive longer I use an HP120.
