An AI computer is all you need. If your computer breaks just come up slow. Being able to do that anytime is the whole point of rec diving.m! Analog backup instruments in your luggage might save your trip so that’s nice to have, no need to take that redundancy in the water at your level.
I’m mostly worried about my contact lenses floating out with my eyes immersed, so I close my them and work blind. I don’t really need vision to do the sorts of things that need doing with the mask off so it’s not a problem. I certainly don’t experience any weird phobias or anything!
I don’t know anything, but I’m not surprised by that 50hr spec. Actually keeping time with a quartz resonator and counting circut uses effectively zero power but that big colorful display is pretty hungry by watch standards, keeping the full-featured CPU on standby costs a bit too. Not...
Dampsuits (let’s be real here) come with a host of problems, but they do what wetsuits just can’t. Just did a dive in Twin Lake around Edmonton, AB today and the water was 4C. That’s basically an ice dive; you just can’t wear enough neoprene to cope with that!
“Good” dive vehicles? Probably not. Not as good as “Ultimate Dive Trucks” of Bonaire or The Chairmans custom rig anyway. Vehicles you can go diving with fairly easily? Sure. The hobbies not all that demanding. Two people with tanks and weights can fit into a mid-size car no problem, wether the...
That does not exist (that I’m aware of) and would be somewhat expensive to do, but it’s a VERY attractive idea! Why maintain a separate gas analyzer (or two) for oxy and monoxide and laboriously check every fill when the transmitter pod on your reg could do it for you automagically?
I’ve never dived the tropics much, never the same place a decade apart to witness any decline. My chilly Vancouver Island waters seem as healthy as ever though. Maybe even more spectacular, though maybe that’s me being more observant! This current crisis will inevitably see a lot of business...
Does the Eon Core compass work well? Some computer compasses work well, some don’t. If yours does why not just use it when you need one, even if just for that single purpose?
I've had a deposit in for Hornby Island Diving on the west coast of BC for three years now. Last season they were totally closed and they've canceled my booking for this year as well. They offered to refund the deposit if full so I can't blame them, they've treated me right, just disappointing.
The digital compasses built into computers have a poor reputation. I can confirm the one in my Subgear XP-Air is totally worthless! If you step up to a Perdix you're probably safe, Shearwater won't rip you off, but you pay for that quality. Not saying the Suunto Vyper or its compass is no good...
I’ve been impressed with Bares warranty service. Kinda slow sometimes, but they stand behind their stuff and do everything they can do to help me out. I’ve only ever had Nex-Gen suits but I like them.
Did not know that, my instructors may have been lax on that point. I like my snorkel for shore diving, but what does PADI expect me to do with one in my pocket on a boat dive?
Seems Atomic is just an $1500 (!) outlier, with most in the $400 - $600 range. Seeing as it’s the whole package of plate, harness, tank straps, BC, inflator, pockets, and usually weight belt all in one that doesn’t seem out of line.
I would want to save a bit more than 21.95% on a referb, I would take a hard look at any warranty and who exactly administers it, but you’ll probably be okay. Ya pays yer money and ya takes yer chances!
